Will Shore Power Still Work If Battery Is Dead?

The battery on the trailer is dead and not holding a charge. However, when I plug in shore power, I still get no lights.

I am thinking the battery tender may be dead as well.

Should I be getting shore power when plugged in even if battery is dead?

Only the regular outlets will work. Everything else including the lights runs off of the battery. When plugged in, it keeps the battery charged so the things that run off of it continue to work. So, no, the lights won’t work if the battery is dead even though you are plugged in to shore power.

You might try pressing in the reset button in the middle of the panel (there's a little hold that you push a pin in). My electrical system stopped when I plugged into a friend's AC power. I think the polarity was reversed.

Would the tender light come on if the battery was toast? I'm not seeing any lights on the battery tender when plugged into shore power.

Jay, I am not sure. I did a quick google and it looks like if there are no lights on the tender, something is wrong with the tender. Might be why your battery is dead. If someone else doesn’t give you a definitive answer, I would call Camp Inn.

Had a similar problem, no light, the tender was toast. Called C.I. they sent a new tender
out with instructions on how to switch it out. Straight forward took about an hour...

I don't believe that is entirely correct. A dead battery on a charger should power a light if everything else is working proper. Keep in mind it is not the battery powering the light but rather the charger. Matter of fact I have done this before even without a battery.

But it looks like in this case it wasn't just the battery.

Thanks Tour 931. I thought it was the battery ran the lights even when it is plugged in. I do know that if you kill the battery using the bypass switch, the lights won't work even if you are plugged in. That switch must turn off the tender as well?

You are welcome. Not all chargers are the same and some will not charge if there is no battery but most will work with a battery even if the battery is only 5%.
