    New DO, campfire restrictions

Ah, point well taken. Raw aluminum is indeed reactive with acidic foods, and would also seem to me to be better avoided in cookware. This line of DO’s is hard anodized and non-reactive. Anodizing is more than a surface coating, and doesn’t wear off. You can damage it though. I have some prized...

    New DO, campfire restrictions

I’ve been eyeing the GSI anodized aluminum camp dutch ovens forever. I know it seems like sacrilege, rest assured my cast iron collection remains extensive. A local retailer is having a retirement sale, and there was a 14” anodized, retails $165, for $60. Sold! (Sorry, only the one) Reading...

    What a mess!

Shelter & coffee, camping in the woods… life is good! Our Backroads hasn’t seen more than a drizzle yet, @Jenn your post is encouraging :)

Has anyone added an Ark tongue jack?

That looks really good, a great solution! When I’ve jackknifed backing up at the end of a long day on the road it’s the pin handle that punctured my bumper. This setup would give me a little more protection from that…

    MI Van Buren State Park

@Sweeney On your previous link to a pic in your media album I got a “You do not have permissions…” message. Your account level is pretty special, maybe there are some permissions presets?

    Water tanks question

Related: the less water in the tanks the heavier the tongue weight. The excellent design engineering of a CI assures that the tongue won’t get too light for safety if you store cast iron in the bins, have the bigger lead-acid battery, a bike rack & bikes, and fresh and gray tanks are full...

    Sink Sink / Water Tanks

We carry our drinking water in 5g jugs, but use the sink all the time for handwashing and small dishwashing. The spray nozzle is very handy for rinsing dishes. When there’s 2 or more of us dishwashing migrates to a couple washbasins. I’d rate the water system just below the stove/propane and...

    Soft Starter for AC

If I recall correctly, @Sweeney did. For us I think this comes up when trying to run air conditioning off a so-called "solar generator 'sogen'".

    SOLD 2011 550 Ultra SUV #467

There are so many shelter alternatives, and one of the oldest threads on this forum is dedicated to the many approaches. Including the REI Alcove, a favorite of many. So much more info and experience is here: https://campinnforum.com/community/threads/lots-of-opinions-on-canopies.1042/ That...

And/or grab that quality slider and see if you still like the image at maybe 800px wide and good/70 quality.

    Lots of opinions on Canopies

We in the PNW know that you can easily break the frame of an Alcove overnight. Somewhere here, maybe even in this thread, are a couple solutions resourceful people have devised. One was a half dozen bungies on each side, running from the peak to the side top rail, creating support to drain...

Replacing gas lines, how to DIY?

I'm glad that you found it straightforward, more power to you @Randy. I think of myself as a multi skilled person with tools and methods, but there's always something new; I found it challenging to get the whole thing hot enough (but not too hot!) all at the same time to pry it out. Then...

    Not so Fantastic Fan experience

That's a great summary Sweeney. It's such a shame what's been done to most of the big RV industry in the leveraged buy out era. Note that slide out mechanisms failures are high up on the list of what new RV owners experience. And those who go out of state to find stock of the configuration they...

Replacing gas lines, how to DIY?

I was remembering that we’ve not discussed propane much here, and went looking for this thread https://campinnforum.com/community/threads/mr-heater-buddy-connection-to-aux-propane-port.6161/ which was the beginning of my learning. I guess you could call that thread “pitfalls of matching...

Replacing gas lines, how to DIY?

Well, this is what I’ve been reluctant to say. That method is how it’s done, after carefully removing the screw in the sink drain. Reluctant because it involves using heat near the gas lines and wood cabinets. In my opinion the basic safety practices are to completely exhaust all gas from both...

Replacing gas lines, how to DIY?

Removing the utilities connections box would only give you access to the junctions between it and the sink. Because there’s only an inch of depth there, just enough for 90-deg elbows, you don’t have space to check or replace the gas line, only that last quick-connect fitting. No, it’s adhered...

Replacing gas lines, how to DIY?

I did go in that area, it is to the left of the sink and very hard to get there. I’d call it special tools and methods, not least of which is getting out the sink!

    Not so Fantastic Fan experience

I guess I’d describe it as a firm sharp pull with the hand and wrist. My fan is what was installed by CI in 2012 as the rain sensing upgrade.
