Dc - Dc Charger Install - Fusing And Wire Gauge Questions

Almost all the small camper charge wiring I’ve seen and made is 10ga., including charge lines in tow vehicles installed by shops. There are certainly stereo installers and overland campers who go down to 6, 4ga, and welding cable; to me that’s over the top. If I had an overlander with 250a...

New Dutton-lainson Swivel Jack On The Way

If needed: A trailer shop could weld a new 3/16” (5mm) plate over your existing holes in the beam. And could come in from the other side to fill the holes with weld. Then you have an undrilled piece of trailer to bolt to… I suggest all this purely from a theoretical standpoint; there may be...

    Galley Not Waterproof

You did well to recognize that water takes its own path in the camper. We had a recent experience of visiting with friends in the next campsite when a sudden cloudburst let loose. And it was (briefly) a real soaker… and our kitchen hatch was open, the wind deflectors were furled, and the...

    Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller

Some cars, including my Highlander, cut the 12v feed at the hitch when the key is turned off. Per my testing. On the other hand, and I’m not completely sure if I’m remembering this correctly, several or multiple or all states require electrically activated trailer brakes to engage if a trailer...

    Dead Batteries Aren't Much Fun

My understanding is that not all group 24 batteries will fit - it’s important to measure your current battery, the tray it sits on, and the play in height you might get by adjusting the cleat that holds down the battery. Also bearing in mind that some of the “empty” space above the battery is...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

I myself would be most concerned about safety. My understanding is that in proper adjustment the CI brakes work to keep the trailer behind the tow vehicle during emergency braking and swerving, preventing jackknifing. They don’t have much effect in day-to-day driving. Even if the effect on...

New For 2022- Pahaque 5x7 & 10x10 Now Fit Camp Inn

We aren’t using our ARB awning room and will sell it on. The awning risers can come off. The search continues! Pahaque? Maybe. We carry a sturdy tent pole with a tennis ball stuck on top. With it we create a single peak at the center of the ARB 8’ (2500) awning. This will handle a torrent!

    Confused About Electrical Basics

Right, there is a scale problem with a lot of these upgrades. The shunt monitor will handle at least 5x the power our little electric systems deal in… and lots of the other rv/marine components are designed for larger vehicles than our little trailers. Victron, dirty6? How is it working for you?

    Confused About Electrical Basics

Whelp, I installed a (Victron knock-off) Fusion Energy TBD-SmartShunt bluetooth battery monitor (link) in our 560 yesterday. About half the price of the Victron. I’m thrifty… It is doing fine, giving good state of charge % info as well as current amp-hours in and out, and estimated time to a...

    Help With Solar

The point is that only one charge controller should be in the circuit. Rather than changing the wiring in the trailer to temporarily use a portable solar panel, buy a portable either without a controller or with a controller that is easily bypassed. It’s very handy to have a controller on a...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

I’ve seen video clips of people doing some pretty amazing things, including using a Rokon as a floatation device going downriver! I’m fascinated by that old/new tech… but don’t seem to have an actual use for it. Also on the radar is that NZ 2WD all-electric farm cycle, the UBCO.
