Just back from Fort Clnch State Park...Fernandina Beach, Florida (north of Jacksonville).
Fort Clinch was as large an area as Castillo San Marco in St. Augustine, Florida (Anastasia State Park)except the walls were not as thick! Saw a boomer submarine come in from the pier area into the Amelia River (where we were camped)which was pretty neat to watch as the Coast Guard boats prepared for its arrival. LOTS of bike riding and the park has off-road trails too. This park caters to everyone...if you can't discover/find something to do...you have a problem!!! Great time and good weather although there were some bugs (early September in Florida).

... looking kewl.. no "Escorts" with the Boomers... When we see them off of Whidbey Island they usually have escorts ranging from Helicopters to 2 Big Coast Guard ships...

any pics of the campsite?? and we're the bugs carrying off the little kids. I've heard you have some big Ole'skitters (mosquitoes. down there

    Fun...

Tried to put a few campsite photos on this "page" but started a new one accidentally!!! Ocean going tug, a security assault boat and; Alan here... This is red neck country and we seem to get along fine without the additional security that is required on the left coast. Actually, the Navy and Coast Guard are very common around that area and I am sure hidden away, a short radio call away, there was plenty of help if needed.
    Susan here....
mid week we don't run in to too many children....just their grandparents!!! Apples don't fall far from their trees.
