I did a one-nighter at Fort Frederick State Park, MD on my way into DC for Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful park and my lot was about 40 feet from the Potomac River. There are train tracks that run through the river valley but it just added to the ambience. Your mileage may vary on that and if you're not a train fan, and are tired, it might turn into a nightmarish evening a la My Cousin Vinney.

There are no hook ups, and the lots were pretty close, but I was the only one there and had the whole are to myself. I wish I could have toured the old fort, but I was on a tight schedule.

I'd definitely stay there again! I think it cost $8 a night.
