This state park near the town of Mexia (pronounced may-HE-uh) is a heretofore-unknown-by-me GEM. 26 sites for trailers, all with W+E, most with at least partial shade. Views of the lake (formed by a dam on the Navasota River), good for fishing and paddling. (You can fish w/no license in Texas state parks.) There are also primitive, tent-only sites, canoes/kayaks for rent, cabins for rent, and a CCC-built activity center. Several hiking trails meander around the lake.

Bathrooms are pretty clean, if dated. After a hot day traveling in the truck, the showers were most welcome!

The ranger who checked us in told Diana they are booked most weekends most of the year. Fortunately the Texas Parks and Wildlife web-based reservation system is relatively easy to use. (Texas isn't using recreation.gov like so many states do.)
