Checked this park out on the way home yesterday from Tears By the River. Located on I-90 Westbound just after the I-90 & Hwy 61 split on the Mississippi south of Winona. Very nice. On top of the bluffs.
Cost is $16.00 per night plus either a MN State Park sticker or day pass.
Great River Bluffs State Park
Lots of hiking trails along the bluff - some places to view the breathtaking Mississippi River & backwaters. Lots of field areas for hiking, too.
It is heavily wooded, so the campground does not have bluff side sites. All sites are very secluded but nice size. There are 31 sites, 2 are handicap accessible, many sites are reservable. No electric sites. Showers/flush toilets, as well as vault toilets, are available. Water will be turned off October 23, 2010 but camping is available after that date.
Group campground is walk-in (tents only), so not available for teardrop gatherings.
There is also a bike-in only campground.
They have groomed ski trails & sliding hill in the winter months.
They offer a birding backpack that you can check out for free with binoculars, bird guides & a checklist of birds that are found in the park.
