Keowee-toxaway Trip

  1. We get back to camping this weekend. Going about an hour away from the house to Keowee-Toxaway State Park here in SC. This park is at the base of the SC Blue Ridge Mountains and is located on Lake Keowee. SC Hwy 11 is a scenic that skirts the edge of the mountains and there are several other state parks in the area both at the base of the mountains and a couple that are up in the mountains.

The park system here in SC has 47 Parks and has an ongoing campaign to get people to visit all of them. If you complete they call you an "Ultimate Outsider" and put your picture on their Facebook. Yeah, we're a little crazy and we'll do about anything for a pin. We will do some hiking in Keowee-Toxaway and probably a few of the other nearby parks. The Oconee Bell flower hopefully will be blooming and it only grows in this part of SC. The park is small and only has 10 or so sites plus a few tent only site in another area. The Lake was built to keep a nearby Nuclear Plant cooled down so Duke Energy built this park in exchange for taking the land for the lake.

Should be good weather and even the overnight lows don't look too bad. The chance of keeps coming and going but we are planning to give it a try.
