Lone Point Lake Shelbyville, Il

Even though Bob and I have moved on to a larger aluminum trailer, we still read the forum and thought you would enjoy this campground.

Nice COE campground with nice sites on the lake. Most are on bluffs. Tent and trailer sites, 30 and 50 amp electric. Some full hookup away from lake. Some buddy sites. Nice boat ramp very near to campground with free launching if you are camping. Every site has picnic table, lantern pole, fire grate with grill top. Water nearby. Shower houses and toilet houses in certain loops. Tent sites nearby these. $16 night. $8 with national park senior card. Can't beat the price!

Stayed here 3 nights few weekends ago and it was really nice, quiet. The boating is great as Lake Shelbyville is a large reservoir and can support the boat traffic. We are fisherman and weren't bothered by the other boaters. Houseboat rentals from marina at another campground. View from our site was great with the full moon on the lake. Tried to post picture but wouldn't load, sorry.

It's a little off the beaten path and doesn't seem as popular as some of the other lake campgrounds which are also COE. Maybe that's why it was so nice. Nice friendly camp hosts. Good maintanence on the campgrounds.

Thanks Gina. It's always good to hear of a new IL Campground. We haven't camped that way in a few years - maybe we'll be able to get there this fall.

We drove over there on a Sunday prior to camping just to scope out the campgrounds. In IL they will let you tour the campground without paying. We got a "just visiting" sign when we asked to drive around. Corn is pretty high so go slow on the access roads. This place is just two hours from our house. We did see a good number of tent campers and one RPod as well as other trailers. Nice find in IL. We might try the kayaks sometime.

Another good spot for the kayaks is Kickapoo State Recreation, Area not far from Danville. Old coal strip mining area, with a lot of nooks and crannies to paddle. Nice campground too.

Thanks Ken and Peggy. Don't know if you saw my previous review on Moraine View in Kilroy, Il. It's lake has electric motor limit so there are a lot of kayaks to be seen. Nice shaded campground too with electric.
We will be there in October for an airstream weekend.
