Speakers Simple Speaker System Suggestions?

I'm just looking to put in a simple powered speaker system that I can plug an Iphone into, but with permanent speakers in the galley back wall of a 550 Ultra. I don't want to install the whole radio, cd business, just a mic jack coming out with power and volume controls with a minimal amplifier that will run off the 12V power and doesn't even show, if possible. Any suggestions?

This may be too simple but we got an iPod alarm clock like the one below. I wanted a clock in the kitchen and some music. I'm using it in my home kitchen now. Hope to find a 12v adapter for it.

    Meribeth,

Do you know what voltage the input cord is? Does it use a wall cube of some sort?

Looked at it online and the line drawing in the manual says 10V. Strange number.

Yes, it has a small "wall cube". It says:

    Input: 100-240V - 50-60Hz 450mA
    Output: +10V 1.4A

We normally have a site with electric but it would be nice to be able to use it when we don't.

    Thanks!

Yes, a little too simple. I just don't want any more stuff to find a shelf for. just want to build in speakers, amp and interface. I haven't been able to find an Iphone dock setup so just a mic input would be OK. I found this which would actually be good and use little power:

but, $185 with no speakers? C'mon.

    Meribeth,

Yes, a 10v is a odd one. I looked at some dc-dc convertors and really don't see any 12v to 10v units. They have 9v but I would rather see you run 12v into than 9v if it is looking for 10v.

Here is a really good source for dc-dc convertors, this is where we go when we have something to install for someone:

It looks like I may be rather alone in wanting a simplified system for sound here that avoids radio/cd players, etc. and just uses an Iphone/pod source.
But in case someone else is interested, here is what I have come up with for something in the galley:

A small amplifier that lets me control volume, mounted behind the galley wall:
    http://www.polyplanar.com/sites/default/files/documentation_pdfs/me-52_amp_sheet.pdf

I like this for a cable since it lets me use the base output from the iphone and charges it all with one cable:

These speakers, mainly on the recommendation of the guys at CI

And this to mount the iphone on the back wall (and maybe hold an ipad if you don't have the TV option in the cabin?):
    http://www.dockem.com/

This would leave the phone mount and volume knob on the galley wall, with the iphone cable coming through the wall, one way or another.
    Think it will work?

Here is another even simpler option, though for more $ and with less power, though I don't think the power is really a concern. It is still tempting: Iboat

and one more option here, but it's in 3rd place now: Simple stereo

Greg, neat stuff. I thought about not getting the TV and mounting the iPad on the wall in that space but went and got the TV anyways. I'm a news junky and if I were in a campground that had cable I would probably use it a bedtime.

On the quickbuy piece it is hard to see where they have the setpdown from 12V to 5V. Says it has it but the fine print says that all sales are final.

Then I got to thinking that since Craig and Cary are engineers and worked for a UPS company maybe, with all of the bells and whistles we want to install in out TI's, that they need to think about how to shrink one of these to fit where the battery is currently located and we could run whatever we want, whenever we wanted, off the gird, no solar panels and we'd have hot water.

    Just a thought....
