WY National Park Tower Falls (Yellowstone NP)

  1. This was a great camping experience in Yellowstone. We had camped in one of the bigger campgrounds the previous 3 nights and which we moved sooner. It is small, only a little over 30 sites. It fills quickly so get there early. We got there at 7:30 am and were third in line. Not all of the spots will work with even a small camper but most will. The campground host was the best I have worked with. She was up at the entrance and made sure it was truly first come, first served based on arrival order that morning. (Pew had been told some of the other small campgrounds would have people dropping off a chair or something for the exiting camper to leave behind so the site would already be claimed.). She said they usually had 5-7 a night leave. We were site 14 which we made work for our 560 Ultra. The sites on the outside were more private. The bathrooms are vault/pit toilets which were very clean and the smell was not a problem as long as people followed the instructions to make it vent properly, keep the lid and door closed unless being used. My wife and daughter were willing to try it because this campground is near the Lamar Valley where the wolves are best seen. It also has a lot of Bison in the summer. Further down the road in Icebox canyon you can see mountain goats. There is a store down the hill where you can get ice and firewood. There are flush toilets there too. Showers are at Roosevelt Lodge. Laundry is at Mammoth or Canyon Village. Shower is a flat fee at Canyon with unlimited time or a token for a timed shower. If you go to Canyon, you could start wash then head into the shower to cut down on time. Next time we will make reservations to get into the park and then move here the next morning.
