    Questions & thoughts on power

Boondocking away from others! Most or all the campgrounds I’ve visited require gennies off at 8 or 10.

New Manager of the Awards Badges

Paging @Sweeney , paging @Cary Winch , Some time ago there was a page, or maybe a media album, that had graphic badges one could link to for embedding… like in my signature. Or, I suppose you could copy/paste a graphic from somebody’s sig… or download it…

    Questions & thoughts on power

Old and feeble I am, a couple 30Lb cylinders I would mount in the bed and still be able to horse them around. Perhaps you could handle a lot more!

    Questions & thoughts on power

If your TV is a pickup you’d have capability for way more than a 20Lb tank. If it’s not, take a close look at tongue weight vs. your TV when adding stuff to the tongue.

    Questions & thoughts on power

Off grid AC is really a problem! If I ever have to reach for AC in the boonies getting a propane conversion for a quiet Honda or other gennie might make it work. I don’t like carrying gasoline… or dealing with it at a campsite! Even with that I don’t know how many hours you’d get out of a 20Lb...

    Questions & thoughts on power

All else apart, there’s some homework to do to even approach this question: 1. Determine power draw of all loads and their average use hours per day. 2. Do the math, resulting in watt-hours or amp-hours per day each load. Add them all up. 3. I don’t think anyone has figured out a way to stuff...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Baby gets new shoes today! I thank Cary & forum members for sensitizing me to potential tire failures due to age. Date code revealed that the tires on our 2012 560 are originals, manufactured Oct. 2011. (2nd owners) We did OK, but 15 yrs is stretching it too far. And the weather! Climate...

    Camping Knife Advice?

Firewood prep - definitely fixed! I however am using a large Sven Saw and a “boy’s” size axe of 28” and a 2.25 lb. head for splitting. Every price level is out there! Both of these can live in the tongue box of a CI… Batoning with a large knife does look very manageable for splitting, I’ve...

    2026 Camping Gear

Whelp, the new ukulele hasn’t arrived yet, but here’s a travel guitar from the same company. I don’t think mine will be quite long enough to use as a golf club…

    2026 Camping Gear

It was suggested to me in another thread that I add a new uke to the camping gear that could survive canoeing. A carbon fiber wonder of musical instrument engineering is incoming! Side benefit; it can be used as a paddle if one is broken or lost!

Time. Speed. Distance. Another good entry today

Great info! Are there standards for center of moment in the EU/UK vs the US? Is it proportional to tongue weight :: gvwr? It seems to me that by the time you need anti-sway, you’re already in serious trouble… but those Santa Ana gusts are radical. What do you think is the best use of sway...

Time. Speed. Distance. Another good entry today

My experience of a weight distributing hitch was pretty different than this blogger’s, but then my situation was different. But I do think the reason he was vulnerable to the dealership’s sales pitch was lack of info about what they’re good for. We had a 10’ box Coleman tent trailer quite a few...

    Misc Bunduawn

That. Is. Awesome. We’ve got similar coverage… but ours takes setting up so many more independent structures! That have to be individually stored, moved around, packed in the TV or TD, thrown under the TD or in the TV if not used at the campsite. Hmmmmm….

Trying to pick a canopy tent for camping

I’ve not tried those brands… though we have used a lot of different canopies over the years! ALL of them need to be guyed for wind! I try to guy to trees as much as possible, they are sturdier than stakes and no one trips over them. If possible I run lines above head height where I expect...

Where are you going in 2026?

Crater Lake is amazing, to be sure! Waldo is about half the size, and both are in similar surroundings in the Cascades range. Both have exceptionally clear water, in part because neither have inlet streams carrying organic debris. That makes for beautiful color, my Waldo drone footage was just...
