    REI Alcove Shelter

Can the side tent still be set up with this canopy? It may just be the camera angles but it looks as if the forward legs of the canopy would interfer with the side tent if you put the canopy far enough forward to enclose the galley hatch. Jim

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Below is the last thing I wrote after finally getting home from our adventure. I owe the forum a synopsis of what worked and what could have worked better, what we did wrong and what we would do better next time but understand this, our 560 Ultra worked perfectly ALL the time. Jim It was...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

We are now back in the US after almost ten weeks and slightly over 10,000 miles. Still not home but this old horse can smell the barn. I will write a more complete synopsis of the last part of this trip later but to date we have had no flats, no breakdowns, no tickets. I had gotten used to...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Sue, Jim, Thank you for noticing our absence from the forum. Not sure if we have pictures of the mud, keeping it off of us and out of the trailer seems to dominate at the time. I'll go through all our pictures and post a photo journal after we get home. I have never mastered doing that on...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Despite not posting for almost two weeks we are still out here in the "wilds of northwestern Canada". We left Inuvik and The Great Northern Arts Festival on Thursday, 7/19 again in the rain to drive the 450 miles of the Dempster Hwy. back to the Klondike Hwy and then back to Dawson. On the way...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Steve & Shirley, I worried about the tires a lot before the trip and even more during the trip. I am worried now about the long trip home, particularly the 450 miles of the Dempster back to Dawson, which we will start tomorrow. But so far, zero (0) flat tires. I decided not to try and carry...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

George, 1962 through 1969. Spent 3 years in Idaho at the test station and then made four patrols on the Francis Scott Key, SSBN 657. Note: I was one of apparently very few people who did NOT make it to Woodstock. Jim

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

This again is a trip report of our current adventure, this time relating the journey from Tok, Alaska to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories of Canada. This trip, or rather the roads we have to use, are very hard on both our truck and and our beautiful Raindrop. There is caked-on mud where no...

    Screen house - mosquitoes

This started out as a discussion on Screen Tents. We have been in Alaska and Canada for almost 4 weeks now, generally moving daily but with frequent stays of 2 or more days. We have met every make and model the mosquito factory makes and have contributed more DNA to the gene pool then the Red...

Days 22-26, Haines to Tok Below is the latest update I sent to our family on our travels with a couple of added facts. What I had written about the Top Of The World Highway was written from Tok and was based upon reports from other travelers that had just driven it. Well as Al said...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Thank you all, we are having a wonderful time. I will write more extensively at another time but today was what we call "a travel day" . Just an example but also a day we needed to learn from. We started in the Cottonwood RV Park on the shores of the beautiful Kluane Lake this morning cold...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Here is the next "installment" of the blog we send to our family, it is not written specifically for this forum hence the lack of a lot of trailering information. In that regard our 560 has performed perfectly. I did get a small gauge to mount on the propane tank periodically and after three...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Days 16 & 17, .. Tetsa River and Muncho Lake Well here is our next update, this time from Muncho Lake, BC. We were going to leave today for Watson Lake but decided to extend our stay here one more day in order to go soak for a while in the Laird Hot Springs. Just as we were getting...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

J&B, The shop where I had the grill guard installed only had a few on display but 4 or 5 catalogs of all sorts of add on equipment. With the owner's help I went with the RANCHER model from GO Industries. He ordered it and had it there in less than a week. Around $600 installed. Jim & Mary...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Days 14 & 15, Dawson Creek, Here is the next installment on our journey, basically just an R & R day before moving on. We are here at last, Mile 0 of the Alaska Hwy.  used to be the "ALCAN" Hwy., at least that was what I had always heard it called, the locals just call it "The Road".    ...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

I did have a "monster" grill guard installed, it almost lifts the rear wheels off the ground but it does give our F150 some ATTITUDE. I wrote something about this earlier but with as much as 300 miles between towns with services and no cell phone coverage you must try and save the radiator so...

    500th Camp-Inn Built

When we ordered our Raindrop (#460) we requested a stereo be installed with inside and outside speakers. Craig and Cary took this as a challenge and did a superb job of it. The outside speakers have beautiful wood covers over them that are both "retro" and unique. To see what they look like...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Met a couple in a camp ground in Grand Prairie that only caught a quick glimpse of one in their rear view mirror. It was immediately after the moose ran across the road behind their truck and ran into their travel trailer. They said the whole rig shuddered and bounced. The moose continued on...

Jim & Mary Anne's Northern Adventure

Here are three more "installments", finally got to a campground with WiFi (not free). We are now some 3500 miles into our trip, our CI (Nepenthe) has performed perfectly. Having a wonderful time. Note: These are short blogs we send to family and friends so some references to past events and...

    Changing A Tire

Betsy, I do keep the stabilizers lube'd, I just thought it got pretty tough to keep turning the scissor jacks with the provided "handle". Next to no leverage and a bit of a sloppy fit. Left my cordless home, now I have two. Thanks, Jim
