Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

Jim & Mary Anne, I definitely would not have brought our camp chairs since they never were used but that may have been because we were chasing kids all the time. Other than that the only thing I can think of that I wished I had and didn't was a larger pot for boiling pasta. Remember you can...

Greg & Luba Long Haul Shakedown Tour

Linda, we didn't get to see the damage at Ouchita. We arrived around sunset and were turned away by a ranger before getting to the campground. He said they would be re-opening the next week so I assume it wasn't that bad. We did see some severe tornado damage on the way to the park but I...

    WA - Kalaloch - Olympia Nat'l Park

Those sites on the edge of the bluff are very hard to get in the summer. I had to reserve a site six months in advance and only got it because I was checking every few minutes when the online reservations were making a new block of dates available. The campground will be packed in August but...

Greg & Luba Long Haul Shakedown Tour

First night spent in the Camp-inn parking lot! Smokey Mts, the least used pieces if camping gear, the chairs were never unpacked again. Smokey Mts hike, Deep Creek Nice campsites at Grayton Beach Very nice beach (just ignore the condos in the distance) Big tom turkey at Iowa Campground...

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

Just a quick update, we made it back, six weeks and 5954 miles with the trailer and over 7500 miles total. I'll be posting the whole trip with pictures under long haul when I get a chance.

    Ideal Tow Vehicle

Lyle, I've logged 2400 miles with the Jetta sportwagen TDI with a loaded 560 and I've been getting 29 MPG so far. Driving from Spokane to Necedah fully loaded (without the trailer) with two adults and two kids and packed to the roof with gear we got 39 MPG. This is mostly highway and...

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

I'm sure it's great Evan but I really don't have the time. I went over my itinerary and I don't have time for another detour. Besides, we are already stopping in Badlands NP and the Black Hills which are similar in geology to Teddy Roosevelt NP. I did however update my map with a more...

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

Thanks for the suggestions Jean. I've actually always wanted to see Devil Tower (I blame that close encounters movie ;) ). It all comes down to time and me having to catch my plane back to work. I'm really not worried about the long haul thing, and I'd be surprised if we don't go over 5K in...

    Food Storage in Bear Country

Steve, I can't recommend a particular brand. I bought mine at Cabella's and I just looked for the highest skoville units available and the largest can that would be comfortable to hike with. It is readily available online, even at amazon. The 7 to 9 oz bottles are what I've bought because...

    Food Storage in Bear Country

Bears have been discussed on the forums before, http://www.campinnforum.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=191&Number=2471#Post2471 Not that it's a bad thing to bring up again but you may want to see what was said before. As far as bear spray goes, I don't go camping without...

Jean and Uff Da Inn Maiden voyage

Whoa, I'd rather face much colder weather than deal with sleet and freezing rain.

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

JP, naw, Yellowstone is close enough for us to visit on a separate trip later (maybe even this summer). I wanted to concentrate our time as far away as possible, who knows when we will make it back. Evan, I hadn't thought of that. When I looked it up and saw it was 5000 miles in one trip...

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

The shakedown tour. 4686 miles of highway, who knows how many more on "adventures". Even though I'm very excited and can't wait to go I have to admit I'm a little worried about a shakedown tour this long and how our little Jetta TDI will hold up towing the 560. Not that I'd let that stop me...

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

Thanks for the recommendation. Lake Ouchita State Park does look nice,http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/lakeouachita/. I hadn't decided exactly where we were going to go in the Ozarks but right now this is probably on the top of the list.

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

A fingerprint! AAAAAAGH! ;-) LOL... Thanks Jenn, even though I've seen all the build pictures I'm sure it looks different (better!) in person. I've been having a really hard time concentrating on work when I really want to go home and jump in the car and drive to pick it up. I spent the...

Update on Sharkhide protective coating application

Can you pass on the specific instructions Clint gave you? I'm already sold, I have my sharkhide and diaper ready and packed for my trip to pick up our 560 in less than three weeks. I'm hoping to apply the first coat before leaving the mothership or at least shortly thereafter.

    Wind Cave

Sounds great! It's now on my list of places to visit on my trip home in May. I was planning on going to Rushmore anyway and this will be a nice excursion. I love visiting caverns. Thanks!

    Arches National Park (Moab)

Very nice pictures. Arches is on my list of places to visit in the very near future, hopefully this spring or the fall 2011. NP campgrounds are generally nice but with very few amenities and no hookups, personally I've always liked them but they can be crowded.

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

It's a trade off Evan, I get half of each month off but I also have to be away from my family half of each month. It works if you make the most of the time you do have off. After picking up the camper this spring I don't expect to spend a lot of time at home while the weather is good.

Announcement New Raindrop Waiting To Be Picked Up!

After picking up the trailer we are heading towards Alabama. At the end of two weeks we will end up at my sister in law's place in Opp AL and I will fly out to work for two weeks. When I get back we will either take two weeks working our way back home or head to Tucson where my wife will stay...
