    Campground App

I'm envious of you Westerners. I'd very much love to just look out the window and pick a spot to set up for the night but we've got too many people on the East Coast for this to work. In fact, it's best to plan out your camping season real early around here. For popular sites (ex Assateague...

    Ultra 920

Allstays is great for research on your laptop at home but they also have an app that I'm told is very good as well (I've done most of my research before hitting the road. Here's a link: Campgrounds for Camping RV Parks, State Parks USA Another decent search method is to just type "camping"...

    Portable Double Burner Stove

Most folks purchase their 550 or 560 with the propane stove built in. I chose to delete the propane stove for a variety of reasons however I still have a good portable stove that I fuel with refillable 1 pound propane bottles. I could be wrong in my assessment but I think that most folks in...

    Update It Really Started

I wonder if topping it off once a month or so with a portable "solar generator" would do the trick. I think it's a bit misleading calling it a "generator" (really just a fancy lithium battery with 120 converter) but might serve well for this purpose. I bought this one last summer along with a...

    Cold Temperature Cleaning

I tried to follow Cary's advice about finger/hand prints however, I missed a couple early on that left their mark. The question is whether to try to touch up those spots or wait for the rest of the patina to catch up. So far we're waiting but it does take a while. Ben

    Update It Really Started

Without a sink, I don't really have to winterize mine however I haven't thought about the tires. Why do they need to come up off the concrete? Thanks. Ben

    Update It Really Started

What sort of storage facility do you use? I couldn't find much commercial storage around Baltimore that would work but lucked out that a good friend has a large garage that she's renting out to me ($150/month). Ben

Picking Up A Used 550, Camping On Way Home Saturday

I'm pretty sure you'll be smiling for a while when you first tow the 550. I'm certain that it is a lot less of a load to be worried about. Let us know how it goes! BH

    Woodinville, Wa To Branson, Mo

I'm curious about your experiences with truck stops. I've never really considered this as an option. I'm pretty sure it would be a no-go if my wife were there but if I were traveling solo it might be ok. My preconceived notion though is that non-truckers aren't particularly welcome. I get...

    Woodinville, Wa To Branson, Mo

I'm planning a trip this summer with very little cooking involved. I'll basically be towing the teardrop from Baltimore to northern Michigan and setting up on the beach at my wife's family cottage. There aren't enough beds in the house for everyone and I prefer sleeping with the sounds of the...

    Fresh water filling funnel

This is the same funnel we bought for a very different purpose. It fits great into a 1 gallon water jug - stays in place without having to hold it. This is kept in our side tent for those night time "nature calls". I'd recommend getting 2 different colors though if used for both purposes.

    First Trip Help Needed: Necedah-memphis

I agree that if the roads are going to be salted along the way it would be better to wait if possible. However you'll have to make the trip sometime. The way I plan trips like this is to use GoogleMaps. Put in origin and destination and see what routes are quickest or most scenic - depends on...

    Subaru Ascent?

I wish I had the luxury of waiting a year or so but the timing doesn't work due to needing to give my current car to my daughter who'll be graduating college and needing to drive for work. Consequently, I will need to purchase a new car for my daily drive. I have a little flexibility in that...

    On The Subject Of Lights...

One of the things I've found both when camping and when not camping is that lights will help set the mood and feeling of a place almost more than anything else (as well as good food, good music and good company). As such, a couple of purchases have been instrumental. One of my favorites which...

    Lots of opinions on Canopies

You can use either the large or the small. I have and use both depending on the application. The large has a 150 pound load limit and the small is 50 pound. This coupled with several paracord lines gives a lot of flexibility with the tarp. I usually put a bowline on one end so that I can...

    Lots of opinions on Canopies

I found a pic that shows a bit better the use of a tarp. This was a taken at a music fest that was inundated with rain most of the weekend. Most folks were camping in tents and were pretty miserable but my buddy with his camper conversion and me with the 550 and tarp stayed dry and...

    Lots of opinions on Canopies

I have been pretty happy with my Clam Travel shelter on the 3 trips that I've used it since purchasing in October. What I like is the 1-2 minute set up, walls that add privacy and wind/sun/rain protection and that it is built very solid. I mostly use it as a place to store our "stuff" to get...

    Subaru Ascent?

I haven't really noticed the "back and forth" with our 2012 Outback. Perhaps the reason is that we don't have the same grades here on the East coast as folks out West. The Ascent has the CVT coupled to a 2.4 L 4 cylinder turbo. This is a new engine for Subaru. They claim that it has high...

    Subaru Ascent?

I thought I had narrowed down my search for a new tow vehicle to 2: Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I like the comfort features of the Jeep - adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, apple carplay but not the reliability of the brand. The 4runner on the other hand seems...

    Resolved Maps In Signatures?

Does driving through a state without stopping to camp count? Or do you need to spend a night camping in a state to put it on the map?
