    protecting a solar panel

Thanks for the comments. Dan, the moving blanket sounds like a good idea. I contacted my solar panel manufacturer in China and they offered to send me a protective bag for it free of charge. I'm looking forward to seeing what shows up. If isn't good enough, I'll look at a custom option.

    protecting a solar panel

I've been searching for a custom-made soft-sided protective bag for my folding solar panel. When folded, the glass panels are on the outside of the unit. My first thought was to just carry it in the TD between layers of bedding. But, we'll need to keep it in the car when we have an electrical...

    solar wiring question

Thanks, Dan. Looks like that cable has one stranded wire inside the sheathing. I assume you cut it in half to connect both the positive and negative wires from your panel to the plug. Right?

    solar wiring question

Thanks, Dan. What gauge wire did you use for the extension cord?

    solar wiring question

I bought a 10 amp, 120w folding solar panel that does not have a power controller, as I'm getting the solar option from CI. It is being shipped from China, so I have time to obsess about wiring. Here's a picture of the back panels: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92548760@N02/11327085343/ The...

    Solar

Pat, we are expecting the 560 to be completed in mid-Jan. The plan, subject to change, is to slip into Necedah during a break in the weather and high-tail it to Florida for a shake-down cruise. We'll almost certainly have to keep it wrapped in plastic until we get beyond the salt on the roads. I...

    Solar

I figured this is the best deal I'm going to find, so I ordered the Eco-Worthy unit from Newegg. Rocommendations please: what is the best plug adapter that fits the CI external receptacle? Tips on wiring it? Tips on cord extensions? The panel comes with 15', but I'm thinking more would be...

    Solar

A solar panel is the last major purchase to make before taking delivery of our 560. I'd like to have at least 100w, a folding unit for portability, and an adjustable stand, all at an affordable price. I've found a good candidate at Newegg.com. It is rated at 120w and does NOT have a solar...

    Storage Interior Storage Cabinets

I agree. Although we have a "normal" size house in Santa Fe, our place in Seattle is 377sf and we are perfectly comfortable there. It took some careful thought, but every square inch is accounted for and used efficiently. We were there for four months this past summer and never felt crowded. We...

    winter storage of Dometic refrigerator

Great ideas, guys. Actually, I just got an answer from Dometic customer service: "The unit will be ok being stored in low temps but you will want to allow the unit to come to room temp (thaw) before starting the unit." Beside an easy chair sounds best!

    winter delivery

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. Sounds like if we want to pick it up at the factory, very cold but dry conditions would be best. We live in Santa Fe, NM, so we could just have it shipped here and just tow it to FL. I've also wondered about having it shipped to someplace in between, say...

    winter storage of Dometic refrigerator

Jean, the lows are usually in the teens here, but it can get into single digits, or even below zero on occasion. I'm thinking it best to just keep the Dometic in a closet indoors, but our closet space is limited. However, better safe than sorry might apply.

    winter delivery

Our 560 is on schedule to be competed sometime between the last week of Dec. and first week of Jan. We'd like to take delivery at the factory, so we can get the full check-out by Cary or Marty. When I mentioned this to Marty, he said if you take delivery when there is salt on the roads, they...

    winter storage of Dometic refrigerator

Hi everyone, While awaiting the completion of our 560, we've been buying equipment we know we'll need. We just road-tested our new Dometic CF-35, with great results. We drove from Santa Fe to Denver with some perishable items needed for a tamali-making fest with friends. We had the Dometic...

Dometic white wire insert in cooler

Thanks, Al and Cathy. While I'm at it, what temp do you normally set? The default is 41 degrees. Normal refrigerators recommend 35. I suppose it is trial and error, but I'm wondering if there's a "sweet spot" where things stay safely cold without freezing. Thanks.

Dometic white wire insert in cooler

Hi! We just got our Dometic CF-35. I am wondering why the wire rack in the compartment doesn't have a bottom? What is it for? Thanks for any feedback!

    Gamble Rogers State Park

Susan/Alan, that looks great. What kind of shelter is that? It looks like it fits over your rear hatch very well.

    REI Alcove vs. REI InCamp

With our 560 on the production schedule we are looking at shelter options. From users here, and from what we saw at the PNW Roundup, it looks like a popular option is to have the REI Alcove for good weather and the Northern Breeze for bad weather. On the REI website I came across their InCamp...

    Furnace Ceramic Heater Vs. Furnace

Thanks for all of the replies. Thinking this through has forced us to think hard about how we intend to use the 560. Turns out we plan to be in places without electrical hookups where the nighttime temps can be rather cold. We'll go with the furnace for convenience. Another issue is freezing of...
