    Roof-mounted Solar Shower

Jenn, I will have to get one. They are a riot...when they aren't eating our veg and berries. Little rascals!

    Roof-mounted Solar Shower

Quick update: Mick can't leave well enough alone and decided to build another one. This one is far simpler, about a foot longer, and slightly cheaper. When he added it all up it came in between $60-70 (our math last night was off). He got the bigger gasket for the top portion and just used...

    Roof-mounted Solar Shower

If you think that is inpresive, you should see what he built for the chickens to keep their food safe from the little rat problem we have. This is awesome! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EDshhaw2S18 We can actually control it from the house on those wet days too. The chickens circle...

    Roof-mounted Solar Shower

A while back I think I posted a link to a roof-mounted solar shower that was pretty slick. It was also nearly $300, which I couldn't justify. When I showed the picture to Mick, he thought he could build me one for a lot less. Today he made good on his promise and came in under the estimated...

What are you leaving Behind or Re-organising

I am a huge water drinker because I have some health issues, so I am giving everyone we are with full authority to constantly ask me when I had my last drink. It can get serious really fast for me. I have some different things packed for electrolytes too if I feel like I am flushing the system...

What are you leaving Behind or Re-organising

I was just thinking, one thing I am leaving home this trip is Mick! :( I recently wrote a little blog post on my website about the packing cubes we use. You can read it here: http://havekidwillteardrop.wordpress.com/2014/05/22/tip-trick-packing-cubes/ They are great. I also use smaller...

    Love at first sight!

Mike, maybe once she sees it, sits in it, tries some things out, and you show her some nice campgrounds her tune will change! I am not a typical girl though...like Patty, I live in jeans and t-shirts. Part of that is NW living, the other part is the comfort!

    Clotheslines in National Parks

Thanks for the history lesson! I need to read up more on the area. My greatx3 grandparents left Monroe County, TN in 1853 for the west leaving behind a huge family (but also bringing a huge family with them). We believe the family originated in Scotland (making a stop in Ireland to, as my dad...

I just ordered one, so thanks again Michael. If anyone else is interested in them, they are on sale! Shipping is $12 (for me to PDX), the the price of the unit is $43.99 (usually $47), so hurry on out to get one! Big savings to be had! :) Now if I had been smart enough to use my 20% coupon...

Great, thanks! I will look at it. Feeling like this might be a good investment.

    The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

Michael, I am curious if you think you save power with your fridge cover? I am heading to the SW in about 2 weeks and I am thinking it will be running all of the time with the heat. What is your impression? Also, can you remind me where you got yours? If anyone else has info, please let...

What are you leaving Behind or Re-organising

My packing changes every time I go out. Each trip requires different things. I am getting the amount down, but for my longer trips I have been taking more than I do for short jaunts out. 4 years in and I am still working it out.

    Love at first sight!

Well, I am a stay at home mom with a 6andahalfyearold (can't leave that last part off or I get reprimanded) and Mick has about 20 years left of work, so we get out as we can. I take the kid on a road trip every summer and Mick sometimes flies in to see us (he works a lot). The first year we did...

    Love at first sight!

Oh, I meant to write you a post about that. As soon as you get a look you just have to have one. It was the "nail in the coffin" for Mick who was über-skeptical about the whole idea. We left the visit we did and he said, "call Camp-Inn and order". Best decision I have ever made (outside of...

    Clotheslines in National Parks

Google will answer every question you have. It might not be correct, but you will get an answer. Here is what came back on my search: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillbilly "Origins of the term "hillbilly" are obscure. According to Anthony Harkins in Hillbilly: A Cultural History of an...

    The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

I was snug in my Camp Inn last summer in Yellowstone and woke up around 3:30-4:00am to the sounds of wolves howling. That was interesting and eerie and in the end super cool. Opened the windows wider and turned the fan off so I could hear better. The Lad was upset I didn't wake him for it.

Itinerary 2014 Nw Camp-inn Round Up

Thanks everyone! Riding bikes is pure joy for him. With our small gravel road and the yahoos rallying up and down it, it isn't an ideal location to ride bikes, so being able to free ride while camping is his absolute favorite thing. Those noise makers were something else! I will be doing some...

Itinerary 2014 Nw Camp-inn Round Up

Now this is a news source I could subscribe to! PS - the red thing is the Lad riding his bike. That is meant to be two separate pictures, but I love his teardrop! "I even made sure to use the silver crayon mama, so it really looks like Dottie!" He also wrote about cutting himself with a...

    Clotheslines in National Parks

Ashe, you beat me to it! That's what I call them too! My ancestors came west from Tennessee (and a few other places), so I must have some of that Hill-American DNA. I hang lots of things up in my alcove, but for bigger loads I have a line. Only leave it out while I need it. Take it down when...
