    Tongue Mounted Bike Rack?

Tailgate pad works pretty well if you have a truck and just two bikes!

For this use case, I'd just buy a whole house generator. You'll use it like once every 10 years

Solar + batteries are the way. But tbh if your grid is reliable, it's not really cost effective to have a big battery. I thought about adding batteries to my solar setup and it made zero sense since we lose power about once every five years.

    Tongue Mounted Bike Rack?

Since right now we're just towing little kids sized bikes, I just got a cheap tailgate pad and I'm just going to try to pack my gear around the bikes. I'll post a picture on how it turns out

You underestimate how big these batteries are and how impractical it is to charge them with the size of solar panels that could plausibly be mounted to them. It'd take days to charge a car with solar off grid at which point why bother. Re: all the folks talking about fast charging...I hit up a...

    Tesla

We don't have an off peak charging rate, instead we have a real time rate that just gives us the rate the utility is buying at. Generally that means cheap rates at night. With any of these EVs, 100miles a day is easy peasy. 220 miles a day is a ton of daily mileage and if it's highway speeds...

So this is our EV owner experience: you can get about 350 highway miles if you are willing to do one fast charge.Everyone's use case is different but I've found that aside from cases where we tow the camper, we do 350 miles in a single shot maybe once or twice a year. And need to do more than...

I mean if you're off roading through heavy gravel I could see this being an issue. But let's face it, 90% of people do all their driving on perfectly fine paved roads and the chance of this happening is basically 0%. The chance of any given car being totaled in a car accident is way way way way...

    Tesla

Ngl I think battery longevity for EVs is an overblown concern. You'll get less range but it will still run. Contrast that with having to rebuild an engine at some point north of 250k miles on a gas car. I will tell you from personal experience that towing with an EV is an absolutely terrible...

EV or not, I think anyone who hasn't been in the market for a car lately would be flabbergasted at the prices. Average price on a car is $50k! I just bought a three year old used truck (albeit with high level trim and low miles) for $30k!

    Tongue Mounted Bike Rack?

My older kid already pitches a tent and sleeps in there with her friends half the time lol. I'm going to get a cheap tailgate pad and give that a go. I'll let you know how much space it takes up in the bed.

    Tongue Mounted Bike Rack?

So upon further investigation, my concern with this setup is tongue weight. My mav can tow 4000 lbs so I have 400 lbs of tongue weight to work with. The CI is about 150 and between a bike rack and bikes and the payload, I'm a bit worried? I might just buy a cheap tailgate pad and use that until...

    Tongue Mounted Bike Rack?

Resurrecting this thread bc I got a new tow vehicle and my kids are getting old enough that throwing the bikes inside the CI is getting awkward. Do you know about how high of a rise you need to have the bike rack? The dual receiver you listed is extremely expensive

    Hitch Jack Won't Turn?

Probably the turn I made where I busted my kids bike. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this short of hammering it like a madman?

    Hitch Jack Won't Turn?

I feel like I'm going crazy guys this has worked perfectly fine for two years and I look and it now and I can't seem to do the most absolute basic part of setting up my camper

    Hitch Jack Won't Turn?

Hi guys. I'm not sure how this happened but I arrived at my destination and I can't seem to pull out the metal piece that allows me to turn the hitch jack. When I pull it all the way out and the spring is fully compressed, the metal is still not out where I can turn the jack. I thereforw can't...

    Total Eclipse

We opted to just get a hotel room with a pool for the kids since the eclipse is on a Monday. FYI if you're getting a hotel room book sooner rather than later lest the prices go nuts.

    Fan Cover For Light?

Hey guys, I've noticed that we have all these curtains to keep out light so that we don't wake up at the crack of dawn, but the fan lets in a ton of light. Is there a recommended cover for it to keep the camper dark?

Has my battery gone Toes Up?

Not going to lie, I think having a separate LiFe battery with a display showing state of charge that you can discharge to 0% makes using the Dometic way less stressful.

First Trip With Transit As Tv

Yeah I've found that I get ~19mpg with our 6 cylinder Outback towing the CI. Hilariously, we actually get only 17 in city driving without towing.
