Snow predicted again for us in SC. We’ve had two snow or sleet events at times in one winter, but the last time it was 7 days apart was 1973. That was the first snow I remember and was 5. It snowed once when we lived in Atlanta because there is a pic of me in it, but I don’t remember. Briefly...

Thawing pretty quickly here. Luckily the freezing rain for us was not bad. We had mostly sleet. Sunny & 40 so a lot will melt today. Lots of black for a few mornings. I’m old enough to remember when nobody here had snow plows and they didn’t brine the roads, just put sand on bridges and steep...

Sleet overnight & freezing rain today in Upstate SC. Almost to the end of it. Not great, but so far isn’t bad as some of the predictions earlier in the week. Brought my mother over to our house, because we have a generator in case she had power outage. Hoping this will be our one winter weather...

Ice storm coming Sunday. The generator we put in for the house may get a workout. Hope everyone In the path of this storm is safe.

We saw three tiny snowflakes while we were at our daughter’s this weekend in Mooresville, NC. Looks like the upcoming weekend may be our winter weather eve for the season. Hopefully it’s snow and not freezing rain.

We had to say goodbye to one of our camping partners yesterday. Angus had just deteriorated too much to continue on. He liked hiking & sleeping in the camper. The rest of camping he hated. lol, he whined constantly the few times we took him. He can around eventually . Great little dog we got...

Apricots were ripe when we there. Our campsite backed up to the apple orchard. It was June and the deer would be in there in the morning.

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has a healthy & adventurous 2026 with lots of camping.

You couldn’t book ahead at Fruita when we went there. My crazy story from that trip was one morning an elderly woman came out of her tent about 8:00 am or so wearing nothing but a negligee. When she went in the bathbathouse, the whole campground was giggling & shaking our heads. At Bridge...

We camped in both Bridge Bay & Colter Bay in 2015. Nice, just big and with Bridge Bay you had to go somewhere else for showers & laundry. We liked Tower Falls in Yellowstone once moved there. We liked the Fruita campground in Capitol Reef because the park was not crowded. The pie from the...

The one in Florence, SC is dangerous on I-95. People are diving for the exit at the last second to get there. We decided on our New Mexico trip to not try one while towing the camper.

For awhile we thought a Buc-ees would be built in my county in SC. The state and company could not work out how and who was going to pay to upgrade exit 21 on I-85 to handle the traffic increase, so it died.

Never get that here. We are a block of Main St and half mile away from the mall & the area with the big box stores. The parking lot lights nearby make it like look dusk all the time. Tall trees nearby don’t help either. One of the things I like about camping is seeing the night sky.

The SC State Parks has a scavenger hunt from Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day called Dashing through the Parks. Some things require going to some of the parks while others you can do at home. You earn points and if you earn enough you get some swag - tshirt, knit cap, etc. The top level enters...

As a kid I spent the night before Thanksgiving at my grandparents. She put the turkey in before going to bed & would turn the oven off leaving the bird in there all night. She would turn the oven back on when she got up. It was really, really dry, but I thought it was the best. She would let me...

I’ve got a 5 gallon bucket for brining. Turn a cooler on its end to put the bucket in. Always put in the tub in case the cooler fell over. I’ve never smoked one before, but I would like to. Carrots - I use about 1-2 carrots per person.

Brine the turkey or not? Smoke or roast? Stuffing or dressing? We are roasting. We have brined before but it’s been several years. My side dish I add is Carrots with orange marmalade cooked In Blenheim ginger ale until the liquid has boiled away. Pro tip: don’t breathe in when cooking with...

Early start on Friday, but brought home another state championship.

3:30 am wake up to my State Cross Country meet tomorrow. Kids are excited about the early departure. Lol.

Wind chill in the teens, not sure I can remember that low in mid November. Snow flurries this afternoon. 2 more practices & the State Cross Country meet on Friday. Then I get some time off from coaching for a short time.
