We've had the unlucky events of both picking up the trailer from Necedah, and some fall (early unexpected winter) travel, where we have been running in snow and salt. I thought I got all the salt off each time. But I didn't, and the Baby Moons and chrome have taken a hit. Since the OEM wheels and tires were only 3 years old, I figured I could switch them over to my open utility trailer, and still get lots of use out of them. But give the 560 a slight facelift at the same time.
I understand the Baby Moons are a nod to the past, but they don't really match the rest of the "futuristic" design of the trailer, and were the one (only) thing I haven't really been happy about.
Like Randy, I went with the Goodyear Endurance as a replacement and kept the factory" SUV" sizing (205 75R14); I had seen other other forum members opt for a 15 inch aluminum rim and tire, but was very sceptical about the clearances of the larger assembly, particularly on bumpy roads with the axle rotating back and up.
I paired up the Endurance tires with these...
860M Mamba Trailer - Black Machined Rim by Raceline Wheels which required some 1/2" x 20 black mag extended lugs. Photo of them installed on the trailer attached below. The Endurance are 65 PSI max but I've set them for about 28. No miles or feedback on it yet though.
Not a terribly radical look, and in keeping with the Alcan cover, and other black trim components. They'll likely handle the odd salt exposure a little better than the OEM wheels. So that's my unjustifiable justification for the upgrade.
