I am very, very, new, but after poring over all of the available info on this site, I respectfully submit: 'Camp-Innerds'. And believe me, that is spoken with LOVE.
Our 550 Ultra is going into the build queue sometime late July/ early August. I am officially retiring June 30, so September can't come soon enough.
My wife and I have camped for years out of an '87 VW vanagon, non-Westy style, just a 7-passenger sedan basically. Currently it is getting completely rebuilt: New paint, bigger wheels & tires, bigger brakes, heavy duty clutch, rebuilt 4-speed transmission (higher top gear added), + a 1.8L turbo Jetta/Audi 4 cyl inline 4 banger that will have adjustable hp ranging from 180 to 240 and similar torque values. Between the two expenses someone might ask, 'why not just get a small motor home?'. As far as I am concerned, if you can clean your campsite with a vacuum cleaner then there is something wrong.
We are sooooooo looking forward to this new way of seeing our country.
Thanks to all of you out there for your great stories, pix, ideas, etc. And thanks Evan, for getting a bunch of folks together, obviously with some encouragement from Camp-Inn.
