Located in the center of Washington state this park is right off of I-90 as you cross the Columbia river. The Petrifed forest is just a few miles of trail on a hillside with displays of various fossilized trees found on site but it's still pretty nice. The campground is located just south of the Ginko Petrified forest state park at Wanapum state recreational area. The campground is nice and has just been updated. We didn't find a lot of hiking trails so we explored the area by car a little. One thing I would do next time is to check the weather report for wind. The weekend we stayed here it was one of the only spots not raining in the state but there was a sustained 30 mph wind or more the whole two days.
