Green - Energy Effiecient electricity

Not yet Jenn, just started looking at them. We like the home stove vs the camp stove. So far can only find the camp stove for sale. Like the fact that they are compact, green and one can handle them easily to move- not hot to touch.

Didn't know if anyone had one yet to get more comments regarding them as to how they use them - charging, cooking, heating?

Jenn good purchase one can always use a spoon or shake something in a bottle in a pinch but fire and electricity -great. Will be good to hear how it charges.

Nice report.

Evan, I can see your mind churning all the way here in Colorado.

Hmmm...so how big would it need to be to charge my 3 nuclear size batteries???? I think I'll drive over to Home Depot and see what I can find that would work.

:)

Nice report Jenn, and really like the photos for a view... looks interesting, will have to "Mull over it" as you need to start collecting twigs etc.. which a lot of site frown on..
Interesting...
thanks for the report..

The biolite stove would make a great gift for a loved one's camping/emergency gear, esp. for hurricane areas....ice storms, etc.

We had an ice storm that left everything coated in ice for three days. Very beautiful, but dangerous. Sounded like a war zone outside with things cracking and popping. Big tree branches coming down on people's houses. No power for up to two weeks.

Both son and daughter live in northern VA. They've been without power a couple of times now. Neither has a land line. The charge feature on the biolite stove is what makes this unique.

Jenn,

Thanks for the timely thread. I am suprised at the compact size.

Did you see your PM?

Jean

Products site prefers cooking limited to water. Really limits the use. Where as the biostove can provide multiple uses cooking food, campfire.

For anyone who is wanting one of these, I just found them at REI and used my 20% off on it (all members have a coupon right now!). The full cost there is about $130. I had some dividend burning a hole in my pocket, and couldn't resist. The guy said they are brand new there and they are wondering how they work. I told him I knew several people with them, and they work great!

And for what it is worth, Mick was impressed i got one and already knew about them. This forum is such a wealth of knowledge. I feel like I am on the camping cutting edge!

Just FYI!

We gave it a test run tonight, and I was totally geeking out over it. It is such an amazing device. Mick got even geekier than me, trying to explain that the Mars Rover basically runs on the same principle, except it is nuclear, rather than bits off my birch fence that broke and we have been wanting to get rid of.

It is really awesome. Water boiled in about 5 minutes too, while charging my phone. Mick is running out to buy himself one (we are often in 2 different locations and when he goes to Central Oregon for car racing, this would be an awesome tool for him. The Biolite is amazing! And my birch fence will be gone in no time! Yeah!

The grill add-on for cooking burgers, brats, etc. looks very cool, too. And if camping where wood collection is not allowed, one can always pack inexpensive wood pellets.

Since this is a 3-year-old post, I'm curious if those who purchased are still using and happy with the stove.
