Hello!! from #1140.

My husband Mike and I just picked up our new 560 #1140 from Camp-Inn on Tuesday. We spent the 1st night in Necedah and then headed to the Upper Peninsula, stopping at a campground in the eastern UP. We left for home in southeastern Michigan the next morning. Thank goodness we got a heater, it was COLD!! We have followed this forum since August and after several phone calls with Cary, we ordered ours in December. Our 1st big trip will be to the Keweenaw Peninsula at the end of May. Let us know if you have any 'must sees'.

In the Keweenaw I'd suggest a visit to the Jam Pot bakery near Eagle Harbor.
See the sunset from the top of Brockway Mountain.
See the sunrise from the Copper Harbor overlook on Brockway Mountain Drive.
Where will you be camping on the Keweenaw?

We're starting at McLain State Park, Sunset Bay resort, then to Wilkinson State Park. Thank you for the suggestions.

It’s been years since I camped at McLain. They’ve had erosion problems (bluff above the lake) they had to fix. It’s a nice campground and I look forward to camping there again.

Have stayed at Fort Wilkins several times, most recently was last fall. It too is a nice campground. East loop is a little more open than the west loop.

I always enjoy that area, especially in the fall.

Enjoy your trip!

Where should you visit?
Every where!
Happy journey!

With a ridge of higher elevation along the spine of the peninsula, and the vast area of Lake Superior surrounding it, this peninsula has some of the darkest night skies and grand vistas in the accessible lower 48 (image is from lightpollutionmap.info).

New moon this year will be on May 25, so your timing is excellent. No meteor shower activity is expected, but this is the year of solar maximum and you may get lucky and be treated to some northern lights activity.

This place looks particularly interesting and it looks like it has more info about "astrotourism":

Thank you!!

Below are two more useful resources for Northern Lights prediction:

1. SpaceWeatherLive, Real-time auroral and solar activity
https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/

Together with the SpaceWeather.com site mentioned by TheDogHouse, this site was a go-to resource for flares and other solar activity).
Also has an excellent forum area, much as we have here.

2. Vincent Ledvina, The Aurora Guy
theauroraguy.com

The Beginner's Guide as an e-book is free with an email signup.
Once we educated ourselves with this, we were able to get a lot more useful information out of the flare and other solar alerts, as well as the specific auroral activity on earth, as predicted from other real-time data.
