Since folks are discussing bug repellant, here is the latest from the Environmental Working Group. (I don't think they listed citrus with cloves, but I may be wrong!)

interestingly, DEET is high on their list (of OK to use)

Some people also swear by these (soda bottle bug trap). http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/homemade-mosquito-trap/
Not sure how they compare to the citrus w/cloves. This only applies to flying bugs, and does nothing re ticks. (probably the same for the clove/citrus, unless you hang the orange off your hat...and your cuffs....:) )

Yah, reminds me of old WWII minds or mid-evil stuff... I use marshmallows to throw at kids... and freez-bee slices of chocolate... heheh, that ought get them running around...

DEET has always been at the top of the list as you probably already know, but wrecks havoc on the skin ... been around for a long time... current repellents just have a mix of DEET (30-70% + Other stuff

fun...

Mick just got me a Thermacell Portable Cordless Mosquito Repellant Device and we tried it out this weekend. Evan and Lena have one it turns out too. It seems Lena and I are completely irresistible to the little buggers and when Mick finally got up there, we fired it up. It worked well on our mosquitoes! Wondering why we didn't get it sooner!

I did a little write up on my blog this week about it with links and pictures.

My brother-in-law introduced us to an electric bug zapper. Looks like a small tennis racquet with a battery. You hold down a button on the handle and swat the little monsters. They go up in smoke with a little spark. Very cool at night. However, you tend to get swatting away with it and innocent bystanders (like sarcastic husbands) can wind up on the receiving end of a jolt.

Accidentally, I swear.

Upside: It makes a very cool cracking sound when you nail one and the sparks are pretty. Downside: You tend to be eaten alive by all the other mosquitoes you missed while you were busy swinging the darned thing... and you could end up with tennis elbow.

I'll stick to the lemon eucalyptus oil.

Camp On,

Sue

Hopefully this link works. This stuff is really great. It works well and smells good. As a retired vegetarian, you can even use it on your pets.
