Madison Campground (Yellowstone NP)

Mick'nSarah

Junior Ranger
Hi everyone!

Just sent the Lad off to the big K today and it gave me a few minutes to get a campground review written for my blog. I wanted to share it here too, for folks who are planning trips to Yellowstone. I will be writing 3 more for Yellowstone also and will post links in this section.

I am starting with my favorite campground (at least out of the ones we camped in) in Yellowstone - Madison Campground, which is on the west side.

Here is the LINK .

Enjoy!

Kindergarten was great. I did well through it too, despite being a sympathetic crier - one mom almost got me going. When I left him he was giggling and having a great time and how can you not be happy leaving a kid like that. No fear. He is excited for tomorrow because it is the first day of uniforms. This week is completely insane, and doing it on my own is a little tough. Mick is in Asia for 2 weeks. Because he works so hard, I get to keep camping (and I keep trying to get him to come along, which he is never sorry when he does). I am grateful to him for everything. He gives us a very good life.

I AM a little busy! A lot of these posts I wrote before, but not understanding how the layout would become so cumbersome, I am moving things around and trying to simplify. The Madison post was new, the others are re-runs in new locations! :)

Taking a break to go make dinner now!

Yah, what Jenn says....

heheh, I've just spent 2 hrs going though those "Posts".. LOL, gleaning all the info I could. the Oregon coast sounds better each time I hear it. I believe I've stayed at the Nehalam? (spell?) campsite and was made away of the fact that Oregon will reserve only half of the sites (back then anyway). I We pulled in to the First Come site, they were empty. We were the only ones there, much have been 25 sites vacant in the whole "Loop".. then hit the RSVP loop and it was full/packed.. so interesting.. first learned about Raccoon there too... had 4 just sitting in a tree by the time I got out to find out what he rustling was...

Heheh, just their eyes at first... funny..

And look forward to the Silver Falls site.. after I get back from the CICO...

fun..

Oh, and the Moab/Arches as I'll be coming back in that direction for stops...

Thanks Sarah...
You HAVE been busy... heheh..

Watch out for those Raccoons, they don't wear those thieves masks por nada. Turn your back and they will burgle you blind!

Sarah,

Know how you feel. It's been YEARS and I still remember holding back the tears as my wee ones skipped through the Kindergarten doors and never looked back at poor, sad momma.

Keep busy. That house is going to get very empty.

Sue

Frank, don't leave any beer out either. Those raccoons are party animals and will swipe it first chance they get. We speak from experience! After the party they leave a terrible mess too. They are just really irresponsible. I am guessing most of the ones we have come across had just left the nest! :)

Leave beer out??? that's Blasphome... heheh, but I have and didn't think that would be a problem so thanks for the heads up..

While I have the Yeti, why have to listen them trying to rip it apart... A-Hem, at 3am in the morning...
So thanks Sarah, never dawned on me they would like beer... I should leave out some Red Bull and then watch them jump from the tree tops..

PITA they are...

When Jim and I were first married, we lived next door to an old couple (Felix and Hazel) who were very resourceful. In their younger days, they made raccoon ravioli. Swore they were tasty. But then, anything tastes good with home made marinara sauce. Or does it?

Jim says, "Ah, revenge is sweet... or should I say 'delicious'".

He's weird.

Sue

My brother went camping last weekend. The raccoon opened the car door and ate three bags of groceries - and the bags. Little paw prints were everywhere, including the door handle.

Wow, talk about being thorough and dusting for prints!

Those little devils get into everything. It is one reason we keep the chickens locked up as tight as we do. Raccoons love a chicken dinner. They might be cute, but they are terrible pests. Boy do we have stories!

Geeze... opening doors.. yikes...

I keep mine in a bin in the back of truck or in the hatch, closed at night.
But if they can get in to either one of those???.....Holy Molely...
I'm gone... I've got bigger things to worry about at that site...
Hate the "Little Buggars"...
Like big misquotes with sharp teeth and claws... and you can't read them.. shy or aggressive...

But they're tasty with the right BBQ sauce. Had to eat some just to get the sauce recipe.

And that's a long story. Think I'll save that one for CICO.

AND WE'RE LEAVING IN 8 HOURS!!!! Woo-Hoo!

Sue

But I am not going to be there to hear the story. Come on Sue, don't leave me hanging! :)

Do they taste like chicken?

Okay. Short version:

Worked with a wonderful lady, Maybelle. Born just outside of The Big Easy and later worked as cook for a Texas rancher. Had a BBQ sauce to die for. I tried for over a year to get her to give me the recipe, but no go. And then one day we were talking about eating weird stuff (we did that and I still do) and I mentioned my dad used to fill the table by hunting. Told her the pheasant and ducks were wonderful, but the jack-rabbits were so stringy, you could only boil them. Then she got on about squirrels and raccoons (Southern girl for sure) and dared me to eat those things. I called her bluff provided she give me that BBQ recipe. Next day, in she comes with a huge tray of BBQ raccoon. She eyes got huge when I asked for seconds.

I got the recipe (urp).

Now Jim says he's going to leave without me if I don't get off the forum.
