Despite inadvisable heat, we rolled Muiriel down to Arkansas and the Little Rock area for a quick holiday weekend of camping. It’s about a six hour drive from the house. We haven’t had much chance to camp this year, and will have even less of a chance in the fall when I enter a four month long school right as the weather gets more agreeable for a camper with no A/C.
Some friends of ours had a reservation for their TT at Maumelle Park and we tagged along with them. Some confusion with the reservation and the rules led to some Ranger intervention and the short version is we camped on our own spot for 2 nights and then had to move onto our friend’s site for the third night.
The park itself is nice, spots were very well spaced out and generally pretty shady. The location is on Murray Lake and there were some large boats and a ramp around for a little bit of entertainment. We had hookups all three nights with access to flush bathrooms and free showers.
In Little Rock we enjoyed a distillery and a brewery (the kids didn’t think that was so hot) and a tour of the Bill Clinton Library, among other attractions.
Overall a very nice outing, save for the heat. There was just no escaping it. Sitting outside in the evening led to oozing sweat and a lethargy to try and avoid any movement. We were comfortable enough sleeping in the tent and the camper with the fan functioning well, but there was no escaping that sticky feeling even when the nighttime temps cooled off.
Only other fun note - along the way I changed out the battery of the camper due to some previous issues. I managed to get the polarity wrong somehow, even though I certainly knew what I was doing. That was a sheepish call to Craig to try and get some troubleshooting help. Yeesh.
Happy 4th, everyone.
