Perfect Fall Weather Weekend

We had perfect fall weather, especially the temps, for a 3 day weekend trip. Saturday, we did have some pretty strong winds all day as the cold front moved in, but that brought us our first overnight temps below 50 since April. It’s hardly been below 60 much at night so this was welcomed.

Other than one trip for ice, we stayed in Sadlers Creek State Park the whole time. The park they had cut out huge areas of Virginia pines which are native to us last winter and were constantly coming down in storms. Some of the park doesn’t look so great right now, but the campgrounds weren’t touched since they are mostly hardwoods in those areas. They are supposed to be planting trees that are native to the area.

The park is one big peninsula on Lake Hartwell and several peninsulas within the one big one. The roads are pretty quiet and are good for walking and there are some trails too. We mostly walked or were at the campsite making sure the hammock wasn’t lonely while waiting on the beautiful sunset each night. Been here before, but this is the first time we camped on this loop and we liked it. Someone has dumped some domesticated ducks, Pekin or Long Island ducks, and they visited us several times a day. Woke up this morning to some raccoon paw prints on the picnic table this morning.

This puts us at 148 nights and we are scheduled for another weekend in a couple of weeks so we should cross 150 nights in Jeremiah before being done before it gets too cold for us.

We are just leaving Keowee-Toxaway State Park. Wish we had reserved more nights there. Learned about it based on your posts. It is special and so close to so many beautiful hikes. We will return to SC to keep exploring!

We will be at Keowee-Toxaway next weekend. It is one of our favorite places to camp. The only negative about it is that hill to the Bathhouse. We use the kayak launch there too on day trips. It’s about an hour from our house. Where did you hike in the area?

We hiked Raven Rock, Natural Bridge and Lake trails in the park. Also hiked Upper Twin Falls and Beech Bottom Falls outside the park. Oh and of course, that climb from the bath house numerous times.

We’ve done the first 3, almost stepped on a Copperhead on the Lake Trail once. If you are back in the area check out the Nine Times Preserve for hiking, lots of wildflowers in the spring & good views of both the mountains & the Piedmont for fall color. Jones Gap State Park & Caesars Head State Park both have lots of trails, neither have camping. View attachment upload_2021-10-23_15-56-47.png
