Propane tank wouldn't refill...

Went to the local U-Haul to get the tank refilled, and it wouldn't fill. While the young lad was trying to reconnect for another attempt I was Googling to see if there was a fix. I found an answer suggesting a couple of light raps to the fill valve with a blunt object, tried it, and it worked.
I hope this is not a harbinger of the end for the tank. Anyone have a similar experience?

Yeah, I had seen that back then, and did try the 'drop', but it didn't work so I didn't repeat it here. It is certainly worth it to see if it works, though.

We had that problem last year in Washington (State) we were told that our tank was too old to fill. I emailed Cary this spring and he said that is not the case that all the tanks they have used have the correct valves. We will try getting ours filled soon for our summer trip.

I have encountered something a little different; on rare occasions I’ve had to tap the regulator a few times to get gas to flow when cooking. Our 550 is a 2010 model serial 386, but has the old regulator that CampInn states is 2007 and prior according to their website. Probably it’s overdue for a new regulator.

I had trouble getting mine filled the last time. The "kid" told me it was already full when it wouldn't take any fuel. I explained the tare weight indicated it was empty and that he had opened the valve to quickly causing the automatic cutoff to trip. This is an added safety feature when they went to the new type of valve a few years ago. An empty tank is only empty of gas and can still have air pressure.

The solution is just to wait five minutes for the valve to reset, then opening the tank very slowly so it won't trip again.
