Storage bin organizer

We added these dividers after a couple of trips to help keep things organized. A dishpan sits on top of the dividers to give us an easily removable storage bin that, when removed, gives us good access to these new little bins.

These are very nice - my wife wants them. How much do you charge to ship us a set?

Evan,

When you get to the IRG look around at everyones trailer. You'll get lots of ideas for inserts and find what meets your needs the best. The first year we looked and looked, then I had my husband build our inserts. Every trailer is unique and everyone stores or places things differently.

Bernice,

When the weather warms up some more I'll go take some pictures. TD still packed away for a couple more weeks yet.

I do like your storage bins. We made some for our pans and knive block one one side. Still trying to decide if I want something more on my other side. I like how you said the dishpan fits on top. I always have to put mine inside when traveling.

Hi Tina,
Our camper is still tucked away for a couple more weeks also. Still salt on the roads around here. We are so very excited to get out using the camper again. Reading other peoples excitement makes us even more anxious to get going. Might be just a little bit jealous of the people that can use theirs already or can use them year round.
Happy camping,

Charlie,

Looking a little closer at your setup makes me wonder if you can still get at the battery compartment?

Hi Evan,
I can use the same screwdriver that I would need to get at the battery compartment to remove the dividers. The dividers aren't glued or nailed so that I can remove them if necessary. The short dividers are cut to fit the angled bottom.
Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie,

Love it! Hopefully others here will post pictures of their various dividers too. I have gotten to see some nice setups.

Hi Cary, Thanks! It means a lot to hear that from the Master of Quality! I was thinking that if I had to do it over again I would use the aluminum angle iron on each side of the dividers so that the dividers could slide in or out without having to remove screws.I may do it anyway. I would also love to see what others have done in this regard.
Thanks again,
Charlie

FYI, I found some 1/2 inch aluminum c-channel today that will work great for dividers to slide in or out of, instead of the aluminum angle iron. I wll be changing my setup to the c-channel.
Charlie

Charlie,
I have not seen the aluminum C channel you mentioned - where did you find it?

Thanks,
Ken

Charlie,
I found some C channel at the local Home Depot and have a question for you. Will you just drill through it to attach to the trailer, and then slide your dividers into it? If so, is there a special tool to use to make the countersink-screw ready holes? Or is the aluminum soft enough that you can use a regular wood bit tool?
Thanks,
Ken

I'll jump in here ahead of Charlie... (feel free to correct me)

You should be able to get a 1/8" or 3/16" countersink bit at most hardware stores. Although, in a pinch a 1/4" drill bit can get the job done - so long as you don't drill all the way through. Yes, the aluminum is soft enough that a decent wood bit should work. When countersinking aluminum your biggest problem is often that the materail is so soft, the shavings melt together and jam up the flutes.

You may find that it is not necessary to use countersunk screws - depending on the head size - because you are going to cut your wood just a little bit small anyways so it can slide in and out. A snug fit up against the screw heads will stop it from rattling, but still allow it to slide in and out.

Hi Ken,
Evan is right.I did it slightly differently because the countersink that I have is too big for 1/2 inch c-channel. So I drilled the holes for the screws. then used a 3/8inch HS steel drill bit to countersink being careful not to go too deep. I used SS flat head screws 1/2inch long to fasten the c-channel in. The dividers are 7.5 inches high. If you go any higher with the dividers, you won't be able get them in because the counter will get in the way on the right side. I would love to see your project when you are done.
Charlie

Hi Ken,
Another thing that I did was to round off the c-channel so that there won't be any sharp corners to grab you if the dividers are out for any reason. I will try to post a picture tomorrow.

Thanks Evan & Charlie, I probably won't be putting anything together just yet as we're still figuring out the best places to store things.
I'd be interested to see those pictures of yours Charlie.

Ken

I posted pictures of the c-channel setup in the photo gallery. The dividers do go in or out quite nicely. I wish I had thought of the c-channel originally.
thanks,
Charlie
