Our stove top, cooking solution...

I am confused. Why is this a good idea?

if you cook with electricity, you could drain the battery and have no lighting.

If you cook with gas, you have no impact on the battery and your lighting.

Maybe I am missing something....

I guess the camper in the photo is plugged in to shore power, which eliminates the battery drain issue, of course.

but this would not be a solution to cooking when you are NOT connected to shore power.

Yes the camper is connected to shore power as you put it, hence it uses ac (alternating current) and does not drain the battery. As far as gas goes as an option it is a viable recourse as long as you have gas. If the bottle is empty then you are up the creek without a paddle. So we opt for our method because I have no use for possible gas leaks, no need to fill bottles, etc. If I do not have ac then I have the option of a propane tank and single burner stove, backpacking variety. Also let us not forget the old fall back of thousands of years, fire. As far as lighting is affected, I have the sun and stars to keep me happy, and a flashlight for the troubled times that might occur.
