...Let the fun begin!
Just washed with Woody Ultra Pine Soap. Appears to have done an adequate job. Noticed water spots and streaking on the aluminum after drying with an absorbent towel... not as noticeable on a painted car. Hopefully this won’t be an issue after a coat of wax, I’d hate to have to buff it after every wash.

Wasn’t sure what I was dealing with here. Didn’t know if the aluminum was heated so it could be shaped for the windows. Prayed it wasn’t permanent damage... around the windows were the first areas that got Woody Wax.

Went around the trailer with the sample Woody Wax sponge they sent me to clean the spots I thought might be a problem when waxing. You can see how the Woody’s changes the appearance of the aluminum

Started to wax the roof, the Triple X produces the same look as Woody’s. In the top left you can see the factory shine, but it goes away as the XXX gets buffed out.

Once I did around the windows I could see things were taking on a nice even sheen and my fear of any permanent damage was alleviated.

Things are moving right along... almost done.

Done!!!
The process is not so much labor intensive as it is time consuming. The XXX goes on relatively easy but takes some time getting off, even with a buffer. First time I ever dealt with taking wax off before it dries or hazes over... requires a lot of towels. I started out with cotton towels but they seemed to load up quickly so I switched to micro fiber and it it seem to go a little quicker.

This little project took me a good part of the day... amazing the amount of total area on this tiny little trailer.

As for a rating... I'd give it an 8 out of 10 for two reasons, can't let it dry so you have to remove a damp wax film and you can see where you overlaid working sections of wax. I don't know if it will cure and even itself out over time or I need to find a new technique, but it's very noticable on the galley hatch.

From your pictures it looks darn good. Once spring arrives in Chicago I'm going to attempt a thorough cleaning and XXX'ing before the season gets under way. Keep us posted on your thoughts and results please...

AJ,

That is looking good. Great pictures. Does a fantastic job of showing how it changes the look of the metal when applied. Goes from a warmer colored hue to a colder bluish gray hue. But, a great aluminum look.

Microfiber towel is the only one you should use as you found. This is what Woodys says also. A roll of blue paper shop towels from the hardware store work great.

It will cure over the period of a few days and even out some. You could come back to it with the buffer after a couple days too and hit the spots that still stand out to you. Seems to do this more on new metal than used. So, it sounds like it will get better with time.

Ken,

The only thing I would do differently the next time is use WoodyWax on the whole trailer first as opposed to just hitting certain spots. I think that would give you the thourogh cleaning you're looking for... and stay away from thick cotton towels.

I definitely need to hit the entire trailer first! And I've got the blue 'shop towels' all ready to go. Thanks.
