Hi!
We're new to the forum, but have been lurking for a while. We are renting a 550 the week of July 9-13th. We actually visited the camp-inn facility last year. We were very impressed with the workmanship and friendliness of everyone. We hope to buy a 560 when we save enough. We have been tent campers in the past, so we have the basic camping supplies. Any specific suggestions for tear drop camping that we might want to know for the week we will be renting?
Looking forward to becoming tear drop owners!

Based on what I've read in other posts, you'll also need a big appetite! Seems like all these folks do is eat great looking spreads and compare antique cooking utensils. And I can't wait to join them...hurry up Sept!

Jean's right. Make sure the folks at Camp-Inn give you brochures - saves having to write down information over and over! On the other hand, write notes for yourself - all the ideas you come up with for when you DO get your very own TDu.

RE Mike and Carol's note: if you don't have gas at home, you'll LOVE cooking in the back of the TD. And yes, everyone seems to eat pretty well!

For a week, what you already have will probably suffice. Despite initial advice to load the inside of the trailer - has to do with tongue weight - we've learned to put all the non-sleeping stuff in the car (we keep clothes in the TD) so that when we stop for the day we don't have to transfer stuff from the trailer to the car in order to settle in for the night. If you don't have a shelter of some type, perhaps you can borrow one - so nice for either light rain or hot sun.

The folks at the factory are wonderful about answering questions or helping you troubleshoot - put their number on speed-dial. AND, have a wonderful time!

When we rented last year the 550 came with an EZup canopy and side tent… it's pretty much equipped with everything CI offers… there's even an axe for chopping firewood and driving tent stakes. Marty will explain how it all works before he turns you loose.

Just take what you want, leave your tent at home and enjoy… you'll love it!!!

edit: I see you're going to need the tent :)

Renting for a week will allow you to experiment what storage compartment works to keep clothing, cook utensils, food, and other related camping items. Took me a year to determine what belongs in what spot.

Enjoy your week. Where are you going to be camping?

Thanks everyone for the great advice! Taking some camp-inn brochures along for all of the curious on lookers is a great idea! We didn't realize that the 550 will come equipped with an EZ up and a side tent. That will help with our packing. I love cooking on gas so this will be a welcome change from my electric stove.
We'll be camping near Cable, Wisconsin at Two Lakes campground in the national forest. It's also known as Lake Owen. We've been there before and just love the area. We bought a cast iron dutch oven last year for camping so we'll be trying out a few more recipes in it this year. Our daughter will be joining us, (with our tent) so I know we'll have a great time.

Tell you what: pull into your campsite, unhitch the trailer, set out your chairs, then sit back with some snacks and cool drinks and enjoy watching your kid wrestle with the tent. You'll get the cash for your 560 pretty fast after that. Trust me.

And welcome to the family!

Camp On,

Sue

Thanks for the laugh! Our daughter is already there and has claimed our favorite site for the week, so it looks like a great time will be had by all!

We're back from out time in the north woods! We had a great time. Loons, eagles, resident campsite duck, chipmunks, deer we saw and heard them all! Though I could have done without the mosquitos!

Cary did a great job of showing us the ropes on the 550. Our daughter was jealous that she had to sleep in the tent. Chuck's Dad joined us for 24 hours. He is a retired technology education teacher and was very impressed with the workmanship and use of space in the camper.

A very successful trial run! Thanks for all the tips!
