9-12 July - Where the Wild Things Are! - Wildcat Mountain State Park - Ontario, WI

Come to the place Where the Wild Things Are! Hidden deep in the hills and valleys of southwestern Wisconsin lies the most crooked of rivers, streams bursting with trout, hiking trails for the not-so-faint of heart, miles of bike trails, and yes, even THE Amish Wal-Mart...

Wild Things You Need to Know:
  • Campsite: We will be in Group Campsite "C." The site is already reserved. Total cost for the campsite will be no more than $12/per person for the entire 3 days. (Vehicle pass is extra – see below). Final cost will be divided among total number of people, not camping units (campers, tents, etc.) Due to having to reserve the site for the entire 3 days, cost will not be broken down per day.

Reservations: There is a site limit of 70 people. If you are planning on attending, either pm me or post on this thread the number of people in your party. By January, we should have a good estimate of the number of people attending and will then be able to determine the cost per person more accurately. At that point, you will be able to pay for your reservation through a PayPal account or by personal check.

    Vehicle admission sticker required:
    Daily: $7 (Wisconsin Resident); $3.00 (Senior Citizen Resident - 65+); $10 (Non-Resident);
    Annual: $25 (Wisconsin resident); $10 (Senior Citizen Resident - 65+); $35 Non-Resident

Electricity:This group site is non-electric. (There is only 1 electric campsite in the entire park).

    Shade:
The site has a few shade trees, mature trees on the perimeter and lots of open area. Bring a canopy!

Fire Ring: The site has 1 large fire ring.

Toilets: There are newer vault toilets (2 stalls each) on site.

Showers/flush toilets: Are located in the main campground...a short (1/2 mile) bike ride or car trip will get you there.

Drinking Water: There is a military-type portable water tank (water buffalo) available on site. It is shared between the 3 group sites. The park does keep it filled but recommend filling up your teardrop before you leave home. There is also drinking water near the Nature Center, on the way to the showers.

Shelter: There is a shelter (not a huge one) we can use, however, it is to be shared between the 3 group sites. (According to the park ranger, usually Site "C" is the only one who uses it as it is on our site.) However, we will be bringing 2 large canopies (20'x10' and 20'x20'), so we will be fine!

Pets: Pets must be leashed (under 8') and attended at all times.

Bring your own canoes/kayaks or rent them locally in Ontario (prices vary depending on the length of the trip).

Sunday
Then all around from far away across the world we smelled good things to eat. But the wild things cried , “Oh please don’t go-we’ll eat you up - we love you so!" And we'll say “No! Let's go have lunch at the 'Almost Famous Chicken BBQ!' " Before you head home, join us for lunch in Rockton, just south of Ontario. Meal includes 1/2 chicken, macaroni salad, beans, bread & butter for about $9.00. We will need to make reservations, so let us know if you want to do this.

Hey Fellow Wild Campers! Getting real close to gathering time! WooHoo! Temps in high 70s - low 90s. There is some rain in the forecast and we will have the huge tarp set up. If you have a screen tent, you might want to bring it...combination of rain and heat may make conditions right for the skeeters to join us.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful weekend.

We had 25 attendees, 12 teardrops and 2 tents. :)

The site, weather, company, food, and the Kickapoo River were great!

There was a lot of interest in doing this again next year, so stay tuned!

Thanks again for making this a great gathering!
