Which brake controller did you go with for your new Cherokee? And who did you have do the install?

We went with the Tekonsha Prodigy p3. Bought it from etrailer on line. The tricky part was the plug-in wire adapter. There is not one that is verified to fit the 2017 Cherokee yet. (?) We ordered Tekonsha item # 3014p. Bill finally found the connector thing under the dash, and it looks like it will fit together. We watched utube videos to see where it was, and to see how to connect it. We plan to do it ourselves. If you have the tow package installed by Jeep wich has both the 4 pin and 7 pin heads, it is supposed to plug right in to both the Jeep and the brake controller itself. Then you just mount the controller where you can reach it. We will see. The connector plug was stuffed behind a bunch of wires, not easily accessible as most people found it to be. If you dont have the factory installed tow package, it is still doable, but not as easily. You would need more parts, too. We are waiting for it to arrive, and will keep you posted as to how it goes.

I'd also consider the Tekonsha Prodigy P2. Both the P3 and P2 are solid progressive brake controllers. It just comes down to a matter of choice for what fits your personality. The P3 has menu screens to change the settings and allows profiles for different trailers. The P2 is a little simpler in operation with just a thumb wheel to set trailer brake voltage.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about the p2. We already ordered the other one, and we are expecting it sometime tomorrow. Hoping for the best, even though the more simple operation sounds very appealing at this point...

I will be ordering a brake controller soon, had thought to go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 due to less bells and whistles, but that's just simple me. ("Simple me" is also going with no sink and propane options, to keep it simple, ha ha.) I'm always interested to hear what others install, and the P2 and P3 both come up regularly in this forum and elsewhere. It seems like both are rock solid choices.

I agree. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Well, yay! The Tekonsha is hooked up in the Jeep. The plugin wire adapter Tekonsha #3014p was the right one. Bill mounted it in the little cubby hole to the left of the steering wheel. (Lots of fuses behind that box). He actually popped out the plastic compartment and drilled a large hole in the back for the plug and put it back in. He zip-tied the plug up and out if the way. Beautiful fit! This is my first time posting pics, ss not too sure how this is going to go.
