My interest is a light but capable bugout bike...go for gas if I underestimate range boondocking...oops!

My money went to a Kawasaki KLR 650 (carbureted version!). Love it. It's medium in weight, though...definitely not light. And it's downright heavy compared to dirtbikes. But with a 6-gallon fuel tank, it has spectacular range, and can go anywhere. If the motorcycle universe were a giant circle, the KLR would be at the exact center. But the most important part of the KLR that most people often miss is the sheer self-maintainability of the bike, with lots of available parts all through the Americas. Other bikes in the middleweight class I like are the Suzuki DR 650 and Suzuki V-Strom XT 650. Going lighter, I like the Suzuki DRS 400 and the Yamaha WR 250R.

Thank you for those tips!

NOW I'm jealous :) I'd love to get one of those, especially with the Carb.

I've been looking at used Kawi Concourses again every now and again.... a similar maintainability machine, except for the shaft drive which is fairly reliable compared to some. Upgrade the seat and handlebars and it a very capable touring machine.

Have you checked with Cary & Craig to see if they could make a tandem wheel mod to you 560? ;)

My wife and I looked at a number of possible mdification paths, and decided that none of them were appealing enough to pursue. But if Camp-Inn ever made a 560 Ultra with motorcycle-carrying capacity, there's a good chance they would get my money all over again...

The physics of that weight distribution makes it highly unlikely...Sadly.

I think that comes right along with the built in shower/bath option.

Could you haul the motorcycle in a pickup bed? And use the pickup truck as your tow vehicle?

Hi Mike & lisa - I'm interested in the purchase of your rig. I can't seem to find out how to send you a personal message.
If anyone can help a newbie that would be great.
