Hotel stays

We plan to pick up our new CI about Thanksgiving, and will be driving home to western Colorado. Depending on the weather, there may be nights we want to stay in a hotel, leaving the CI hitched to our suv. How would you secure your trailer for overnight? Have any of you done this and did anyone mess with your trailer overnight? Thanks, John

I have the yellow wheel locks someone here suggested, cant recall the name.
There is also a heavy cylindrical thing that goes over the end of the campinn tow hitch, thst can be padlocked. Its a pain to secure and unfasten all that in a blowing snowstorm or sleet, but worth it for peace of mind if I'm in a sketchy area.

I also have the SPOT tracker so you can send the sheriff to go look for it...

I have the following tri max locks it is nice that they are all keyed alike . Just leave the vehicle hitched and locked and we had no problems. If leaving the trailer unhitched we would put the coupler lock on.

& also have the SPOT tracker

When you're getting your room, get one where you can see your car and trailer from your room. If you can back into a corner, it's much more difficult to get the trailer off the car. I've had more trouble with bears than people messin with trailer,

Research this forum for all the good info about locking your trailer. All the stuff that SongDog said above is the good locking stuff. It will give you peace of mind. Make sure you have full coverage insurance.

I try to park with the wheels of the camper backed up into stop block or a curb, leaving it attached to the tow vehicle if possible -- thats probably about the best lock you can put on it. Assuming you can get permission to do that. Is it temperatures you are trying to avoid or damp/cold weather -- I'm not sure what conditions you are trying to avoid.

Winter camping - a 400 watt little ceramic heater will keep the interior quite warm and a 1200 watt heater will cook a chicken.

Think about road salt -- salt is really bad for aluminum...that might be a conversation to have with Cary
