Re: Welcome to the party! Dave and Annie, good luck in grad school! What are you studying?? and Dave what department at CU? We are University folk too, and sailors to boot. Our 1969 Cal 34, has made setting up the trailer so much easier. I have learned to be compact and to edit what I REALLY...

Hello from Annie & Dave in Boulder, CO (550 U#17)

Re: Welcome to the party! We LOVE the side tent! The more we set it up, the faster it gets. Tim is tall -6'5" , so being able to almost stand upright is a big bonus for us. PLus it is small and light weight, easy to use for overnighters when we don't want to mess with larger shelters. Eileen

    Locks for trailer hitch

Hi all, Sorry to spread bad news about trailer theft. I realize that I do live in one of the worst areas for the recession, a very urban area and close to the border - thus in an extreme locale. But the fellow I talked to today was very sincere and wanted me to get out of my fleece lined...

    Locks for trailer hitch

Hi all, i just stopped our local Hitch and Trailer shop. The fellow there was helpful and gave me the following advice. LOCK EVERYTHING! Apparently trailer theft of all kinds is at an all time high. He recommended the Husky lock that essentially plugs the ball. That is what all the...

Not a plug.......... but it is

I tried the Artisan Bread in the house oven. Pretty darn good -esp for the amount of work! Tim really likes home baked bread - this makes it super easy! I'm thinking of trying it in the DO in backyard in a few days to see if I can get it to work. I'll keep you posted! Eileen

    DO for 2?

Thanks George! It helped me quite a bit. As I read through this and the rest of the cooking forum -it looks like there are several DO cooks. I'm just getting my feet wet in DO, but really like the outdoor cooking. We were lucky enough to spend a year in Australia, and did some great trips with...

Not a plug.......... but it is

George, I've seen the book and thought about purchasing it. I'm working my way through the Bread Baker's Apprentice. I'm sold on the long cold rise method for bread! Did you just place the loaf pans in the DO -or did you put them on a rack inside the DO? Eileen

    Announcement Camp-inn #364 Underway!

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway! I can smell the varnish!!! It is exciting! When ours was being built -Tim spotted an arrowhead pattern in the wood -he looked for it each in each set of photos and on our camper when we picked it up. He, ever the scientist, wanted proof that the photos were...

    DO for 2?

Any one (George, I'm talking to you!) have any experience with using a small DO to cook for 2? I love cooking in a 12" DO for large groups, But we are going on a 3 week trip and I'd love to try some meals for 2, without all the leftovers, etc.... I'm looking into getting a small DO -perhaps...

So far so good! We just rolled along for 20 seconds or so. We live 5 miles from the San Andreas fault and near the San Jacinto fault. So its just a matter of time. I moved my emergency supply box and 30 gal of water next to the trailer, so, we are almost as ready as can be (need more dog...

    Gray water tank algal mat

Winterizing is not an issue here in the citrus belt of Southern California - our record low is 28 : ) . Yes it is the gray water tank -the soapy residue from dish washing, etc, seems to have formed a primordial soup. Having spent 30 years working in biology labs -I know bleach would take it...

    Gray water tank algal mat

I was draining my tanks and the gray water tank spewed brown jello-ish algal blobs. There was so much,of it, it clogged the outlet and I had to use my finger to tease it all out -eeuw!. I flushed the tank with lots of fresh water. My first thought was to add a slug of bleach, but I am trying...
