560 Ultra Trips

Hey Ken,

I've completely given up trying to tie the smaller Flies. My fingers are toooo chubby & clumsy !

I'll be trying to get back into the larger Flies, along with pursuing the " Stripers ".. I've caught a few, with a best of twenty pounds (Surf Rods & AC Plugs).

I would ocassional bump into Mr. Cole , while fishing @ Pyramid Lake, a few years back (approx 20 yrs). He had just started selling his " Hand Made Plugs " @ that time. I personally saw him catch some " Big Stripers ", using his plugs!

Hey L.M.,

Thanks for the info on your Turbo Grill and the link to the camp-cook.com website. I have all sorts of cooking equipment for backpacking which has to be small and light weight as it has to fit into my pack and I have to carry it. I'm in a learning curve on the equipment needed for teardrop camping/cooking.

Do you, by chance, have any experience with infa-red cooking equipment?

Thanks,
Hutch

Hey Hutch,

My " Turbo Sport Grill ", is an Infrared model, which I picked up @ " BBQ Galore " a few years back.

Again, works " Great " with Steaks @ High Heat, but don't bother using the small (1 lb ) Disposable Propane Tanks.

You will need get an Adapter Hose(SKU #131532/approx $20.00)to hook up to the larger propane tank(s) (5 lbs- 20 lbs).

Great pictures, L.M.

Looks like you need the PVC kit for your side tent. (for the asphalt)

Hey, L.M.! Welcome to the forum. Kudos to you for camping in the snow. (don't try that with a tent)

Thanks for the photos!

Evan,
You were not a Boy Scout in Minnesota. Winter camping earns a badge.

Evan,
You were not a Boy Scout in Minnesota. Winter camping earns a badge.

Back in 1976, camped in tent via BMW motorcycle in Kalkaska, Mi in the snow. I lived in southern Mi. I was more worried about dropping the bike than I was the cold. Laughed when we got home. he said nervously!

Don't need a tent in Minnesota to camp in the winter...all you need is snow & to build a snow cave. :)

Betsey

I have camped in sub-zero in tents in snow. I would not trade the adventure for anything. I would be reluctant to repeat it, unless one of the grandchildren, some of whom are in High School, wanted to go.

The cleanest and sweetest smelling air is what you have with winter camping in the snow. And does the coffee taste good? oh yeah!

It's much easier to set-up .. And I would recommend it, over a larger one !

I had a larger " 12 x 12 " , but it was damaged on a very , very windy, cold night !

Hey everyone,

I haven’t posted in a while, due to computer issues. I’ve been out to a few places since my last post.

I wasn’t thrilled with this trip.. The campgrounds were decent… but the restroom facilities were “ Terrible / Disgusting “.
One day I waited for the restroom to get cleaned by the Camp Staff, and they did a very poor job.

I would never go back again for any overnight camping .

With that in mind, the wife & I decided to go back to “ Flying Flag RV Park “ as a base camp (July 9 - 13, 2012)

We spent a day @ Solvang , another @ the “ Santa Maria County Fair “ , and stayed for a night concert to watch the “ Temptations “

We initially were going to stay @ Jalama Beach , but the weather report were a bit iffy: overcast , windy & possible rain showers… There were a few clouds, slight windy nights. We spent a very beautiful day checking out the “ Camping “ spots, for a future outing.

It’s a bit out of the way, somewhat secluded, with limited Camping spaces (110 ).

However, I can see myself staying for at least three days of “ Fishing / Hiking around, & digging for old Arrowheads."

Good to hear from you again, L.M.

So, what's up with the 'iffy weather' that looks like beautiful clear skies? In the NW, we call that summer. :)
