A Woman in the Men’s Showers

Camped for a few nights close to the house at Coneross Campground (see campground write up I did in the campground reviews) to make sure we had everything in working order with Jeremiah & us before we head to New Mexico in a few weeks. Of course you clicked to see what the woman was doing in the men’s showers. On our second we walked the dogs close to 9:00 pm and we went to the bath house to use it to ourselves. Since we had the dogs, we took turns going in. Mary Ellen went first and I waited with dogs outside. There were voices coming from the men’s side, but I didn’t think of it. The night before a father and his sons were in there around the same time, so I figured it was them.

Around the moment Mary Ellen came out of the women’s side, two people came out of the men’s side. They went to their car parked nearby. Mary Ellen looked at me and said that was a man and woman. She added that she was the only one in the women’s side. The bath houses just have shower curtains that separate the 3 showers from the dressing area they all share. There is a curtain that separates the showers from the area with the sinks and toilets. I don’t think they were doing anything other than showering. I’ve never seen that before and because I let Mary Ellen go to restroom first, I missed it this time too.

I’ve used the women’s rest room before. One time I went some where while camped and when I returned in my car I had to go to the bathroom. Only problem was it was pouring down rain. I waited as long as I could put then made a mad dash for the door. I had to go number two and wasn’t in a hurry so took a while. It stopped raining and I heard people come in and then leave. After I was done I exited and noticed in my rush I had gone into the women’s rest room. I didn’t notice because I was doing number two. Imagine the trouble I would have been in if I had gotten caught.

I’ve made mistakes like that before too. And I teach so if they designate bathrooms male or females the women always use ours if it is a single with a locking door since there so few men there. This woman was with her husband/ boyfriend/ friend with benefits in there. I waould assume he was keeping guard for her at the curtain that separate the sinks and toilets from the shower room.

Mistakes are one thing -- THe most uncomfortable experience I have EVER had was in Germany where they have attendants in the heads at big events. In the men's room, they had a woman cleaning. I'm sorry -- just no. Even if there are stalls and separators....No. Its bad enough having other men in the room.

I agree. I kept wondering what if some kid had come to use the restroom or take a shower. The only thing kept from me from going in while they were in there was I had the dogs with me. It was just weird.

I think it is intentional there. The push to move the Overton window farther and farther to one direction (the fringe, which exists on both sides) and away from the "mainstream." The Frankfurt School in Germany has been manipulating society since the 1920s and those who formed it, probably long before then. Sadly, moving our society along with it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that television sitcoms from the 70’s were meant to brainwash us.

Oh, totally -- Especially (sadly) some of my family watched...Feeling a surge of nostalgia, I went back and tried watching them again, and frankly, couldn't stand it, despite my multiple attempts.

Norman Lear produced many of them, including All In The Family, which is by my estimation the most egregiously so. Frankly, I don't know how or why it was watched except for the fact it was so over the top. Gene Stapleton is the only 'tolerable' character, perhaps because she reminds me of someone I know. Archie, Meathead, and Gloria are all so single-dimensional that they are frankly ridiculous.

I don't think Lear produced it, but the two exception to my 70's rule (though, these may be 80s' -- I haven't looked) are:

Taxi - probably the only show of the era that I still thoroughly enjoy watching. My favorite episode is where they show Reverend Jim trying pot for the first time at Harvard. This scene alone cements Christopher Lloyd as the most gifted actor on the show. It was brilliant!

WKRP - at least the first season, it got lost in the second

M*A*S*H - while preachy, I love it.

Before retirement, I used to fly thru Charles De Gaulle airport regularly. It was pre-covid but the last time I changed planes in Paris and I was in a terminal that was being remodeled. They were in the process of making the restrooms gender neutral with a sign on the wall with both sexes by the entry. When you walk in there was a sign to go to the urinals around a corner and then all the stalls and sinks were straight ahead all with lines of both sexes waiting. My gate was next to it so it provided an hour of entertainment watching people go in and walking back out to look at the sign on the wall. Many people (mostly women) did not go back in. At least the stall walls were floor to ceiling.

I think that makes some sense -- the doors and walls of the 'stalls' being floor to ceiling eleviates the eww factor, and it takes care of the unused toilets in men's room and the long line in the woman room. Particularly if the urinals are isolated in a completely separate area.

This seems like a reasonable compromise as long as the attendants in the urinal area is male.

The facility I was at was just a standard 5 foot wall with the bottom 12 inches open and the typical door that doesn't seal well etc. Gave me the woogidies to have women staff around...if men were in the women's restroom, that is just creepy.

I have seen several in Europe. There is a small fee to use and they’re self-cleaning between uses.

Florida State Forest campgrounds have a longterm project to replace all single sex facilities with neutral ones, now wait for it: the neutral ones are for only one person and contain a toilet, sink, and shower. Usually there are at least four units in a building. They are now adding ac/heating units to each one to handle the humidity (no more sweating after a shower).

Fort Boonesbororough State Park in Kentucky had AC in the bathhouses. It was nice not sweating coming out of the showers. Stayed nearby in the more expensive Kentucky Horse Park with no AC and they were some humid bath houses.

We’re on the last leg of our trip to the smokies. While at Cumberland state park in Tennessee I used the mens room wife went to the women’s she comes out and said that was awkward . A woman taking a shower with a 8-10 year old boy. Then two boys about the same age that showered in the mens room just walked into the women’s bathroom. !!

Hmm. Some europeans are much more comfortable with family nudity...
But this would make me wonder otherwise.
I'm old school tho.
