Campground recommenations near Necedah?

Biggie

Novice
I have been following the forum for the past 2 months to learn more about the CampInn teardrop lifestyle. My husband Terry and I will be renting a 550 Ultra from CampInn in Necedah next month to check out how the teardrop camper fits our camping style and see if we would like to potentially buy one. I am so excited to be able to do this as I have been very intrigued with the prospect of camping in a teardrop for several years. We presently camp in our newer 16 ft Scamp, and would actually like to down size from that to be able to have the option to tow with our Jeep Wrangler on occasion. For this outing, we would like to camp fairly close to Necedah and I have found a variety of options but am wondering if anyone has any opinions. We would like to have an electric site. Nearby Buckhorn State Park does not have any available sites for when we would be there. We do tend to prefer the State Park type of campgrounds. Does anyone have any experience with either Castle Rock or Wilderness County Parks near Necedah or have any other recommendations? Thank you! Julie

Castle Rock is the camp ground that the CI-CO gathering is held.
The sites in the area we camp are "roughly" marked, there is electric, but no water at the sites. The showers are pay as you go, 50cents goes along way. Sites are geared towards tents, so the CI fits in nicely. "a hard tent on wheels".

Welcome to the forum! I'll add another vote for Castle Rock county park, and that's the Juneau County Castle Rock park, not the Adams County Castle Rock park. It might be nice, too, but we've never stayed there.
So, you're Scamp campers now, and want to downsize? How heavy is your Scamp? What model do you have?

There are 3 county parks within easy distance of the factory that are all very nice places to camp.

1) Juneau County Castle Rock Park (in Mauston) on Castle Rock Lake, is about 14 miles from Necedah, on the south west side of the lake.

2) Juneau County Wilderness Park (Necedah) on Petenwell Lake, is about 13 miles from Necedah, on the west side of the lake.

3) Petenwell County Park on Petenwell Lake, in Adams County, is about 14 miles from Necedah on the east side of the lake.

Thank you all for your input on the campgrounds! I called both Wilderness and Castle Rock and received their voicemails, so I'll wait to see if I get a return call to see about making reservations. - Ken, we have a 2011 16 ft Scamp standard side dinette model (layout 6). The weight is approximately 1750 lbs, somewhat more than that when loaded for camping. I have to admit that the bathroom and large refrigerator in the Scamp are convenient and nice to have. I'll need to scale back a little bit when packing for our teardrop camping excursion.

Welcome Biggie.

The only area park I have stayed at is Castle Rock. Basic campground. Clean bathrooms.

I live in Rochester, come on over to tour.

Jean - We appreciate the welcome and your offer for a tour! A visit with an actual Camp Inn owner would be very helpful and I'd love to see the Uff Da Inn. Depending on schedules (yours and ours) we'll definitely keep that in mind and see what might work. :D

Just like you, I "rented" both models to see what I liked and didn't like about models and teardrops.

One thing about renting, is everything is out of place. As you know, with your current Scamp, items have a place.
Be prepared to spend time wondering where you put something, "how does this work", where would I put this item?

Renting allows a person to become aware of the tear funcionality, does the space and shape fit your needs as an individual and couple?

PM sent for contact information. Cary can also provide info if needed. BTW, there are 3 Camp Inn's in Rochester, all are the 550.

We will be camping at Whitewater the last weekend of June & there will be both a 550 Ultra & a Raindrop. You are welcome to come out for a visit. The 550 is ours & is pretty bare bones compared to what is now offered. It is a 2001 (#2) & was the first production model.

Re: Campground recommendations near Necedah?

Betsey - Do you mean Whitewater State Park over our way here in MN? If so we know that park well and camp there frequently. At this point we don't have plans that weekend, so maybe one of the days we could take a ride over for a little visit. I'll talk with my husband and can let you know. Thanks!

Yep! One of my favorite places! It's a popular place, that's for sure!

We'll be in touch as it gets closer & hopefully, we can meet up for a visit.

Biggie, you had better plan on the major part of the day to meet the tear drops. Since you will get to see both styles, the questions generated will be over whelming. Also as you walk away, you are going to turn back and sigh. Your drive home, will be the start of you planning what you want, and what you need. The comfort is awesome. I rented and loved it.

Excellent info! I'm looking to visit the factory sometime in the spring once work settles down and I can schedule a long weekend. The wife and I talked it over and decided to come up and rent the 560 for a few days.

Now I know where to set up camp! One more thing to mark off the list. :)

Check out Dexter Park in Wood county just to the north of Necedah. It is a county park. I believe it is only about 20-25 mi. north. We picked up our 560 in Oct. and drove up to the park and spent 2 nights there. Beautiful park.
