Caution

Anna-Steve! Thank God you're okay. Has the government shown up yet? We've been getting conflicting info on the news over here. It looks as if the Red Cross has cranked up, but what about the National Guard and FEMA? Are you guys getting any help at all?

Sarah,Jenn and Sue Thank you so much for your concern. Our family, friends & home are all OK. FEMA did finally get there yesterday and I think National Guard has been there too. Our immediate area of Staten Island is in better shape than the north shore, but things are bad. Food and gas are in limited supply. Just hoping & praying things get better soon.

So glad to hear you and yours are safe & sound. Hopefully conditions continue to steadily improve in the days & weeks ahead.
 
Glad to hear aid is on the ground and running...and speaking of running, also glad "Hiz-onnah" decided to cancel the race. It was getting a lot of raised eyebrows over here.

Good news from my uncle. The house along the Chesapeake is fine. No flooding and only one large tree leaning over. That will have to go before it takes out a neighbor's house. And the family by Baltimore is also fine. Lots of blessings for us.

And I wish to send some of that good fortune eastwards to all the folks along the path of destruction. Hope aid comes soon and plentiful.

Glad you are okay, but can you tell us what is being done to help the people? We hear about the Red Cross, National Guard and Fema, but the news is only showing locals climbing stairs with backpacks of emergency supplies. Now we hear about a Nor-Easter and we don't know if there is any shelter for all those who lost their homes. We are getting pictures of people huddled outside their shattered houses, burning furniture to stay warm.

Can you give us an update on what is really happening?

We're guessing that Nor-Easter knocked out your power. Hopefully it is on now and you can let us all know how you are faring on the island.

Sue the nor-easter did not make things any worse for us.We are not doing bad it is the people in the low lying areas that have alot of problems.
 
So we have seen on the news tonight. Glad you guys are on the high ground.

Now I don't mean to rant...

My dad worked for the power company so I understand with a mess like Sandy, getting the power back will be one heck of a drawn out nightmare. That isn't what's bothering me. What sets me off is how little help seems to be going to the folks who need it most. There was a bit on the news about an elderly woman who's house was a soggy mess; tens of thousands of dollars in damage with no flood insurance. FEMA allotted her seventeen hundred dollars. A good twenty to thirty thousand dollars worth of damage and she gets less than two thousand? That should buy her two brooms, a mop bucket, three tanks of gas, one bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken and a tube of toothpaste.

Sue the people that I know that need help say they are getting what they need,and they have started to rebuild.There homes where not a total loss but in very very bad shape.
 
See, that's what we need: first hand facts. The press was making it look as if you had all be left hanging on your own. It is such a long road ahead and I'm glad to hear help is actually there...along with Kentucky Fried and toothpaste.
