Hi all!

I am curious. I know others have started collecting certain things as they travel in their Camp-Inns, and I am curious what you collect.

I have started a collection of walking stick medallions. When we go someplace to camp, I try to pick one up, and then I use museum putty to stick it in my galley. I am missing a couple (either the state park didn't have them, or, in the case of Humboldt Redwoods State Park, I forgot to get one). It gives me a little visual, reminds of of the trip and the stories that go with them, and some of them are beautiful. Plus, they are pretty inexpensive. Here is my collection so far:

What do other people collect? Show us a picture!

Oh, and if anyone is going through Humboldt Redwoods State Park and stop at the visitors center, would you mind picking one up for me? I will pay you back for the medallion and postage!

I too have been collecting hiking stick medallians, didn't know how to attach to the tear.

That is a great idea! We used that museum putty for everything when we were travelling in our motorhome. It is awesome stuff and leaves no mark when you take it off.

Wow - I just learned about Walking Stick Medallions AND Museum Putty. I had no idea that either one of those things existed!

Sarah - I love the idea of collecting something that has an immediate connection to a trip. I think I'm going to want to do the same.

Where do you get the museum putty? Is it available in retail locations, or do you have to special order it?
 
Drat! We have discovered the walking stick medallions too. However, hadn't thought it through to use the museum putty, tho, so have been using the included brads to attach them. Oh well, little worm holes.
 
I got the putty at an art store. The pack was $6.00 and you only need a little for each medallion. It will last a long itme! My mom turned me on to it. Folks use them in boats to keep things from shifting. I didn't have any idea about it until she suggested it. Super easy to work with too!
 
There is the bandana collection I was hoping to see! It has really grown! That is fantastic. Have you gotten one that is a game yet?
 
I have been collecting hat pins whenever we go somewhere. Pretty much every place has them. Then I add them to the button banner I have where I keep all of the buttons from various gatherings. Tina does this too. It's fun to see all the places we have been & it's a lot cheaper & takes up less room than other souvenirs. Although the banner is getting crowded so I may have to upgrade to a bigger one!

I also had Craig mount a piece of aluminum inside the galley hatch so I have a place to put all of the stickers we have collected at teardrop gatherings.

Sarah - I like where you put your walking stick medallions. That is where the Camp-Inn Awards are mounted on our teardrop - right near the number tag. Craig just pushed the pins into the wood.

Rick, you can order it from Home Improvements .Just search for Earthquake Gel and Putty and it will come up. Everything that was a decoration like picture frames, holding lamps down, counter items, etc. was held down by this stuff. When you are ready to remove the item, you just twist it off and peel up the gel. It never left a mark. It is great stuff to hold things down in a moving vehicle.

Well, what else would you do with them? :D

He figured that's where they should go & that's where others would put them. No different than adding a paper towel holder or some of the other things people add to their tears.

Although I do also have a set on my button banner. :)

Love the walking sticks and the putty.
Found the putty at amazon for about $5 then a collectors for a little more. Not sure what the difference was.

So, the Medallions, where do you get them at the little local shops?? of high tourist areas??? Just wondering, never seen nor heard of them...
 
I purchase State Park and National Park hiking stick medallians at their gift shops. So far around $6.00 each.

I find them usually at the visitors centers of the different State/National Parks. Oregon is just starting to bring them back, and not many parks have them yet, but everyone says they are working on getting them.
 
A couple of parks out in Oregon and California, when we were thater this summer, had the walking sticks out but we had to ask for Hat pins. They had them under the counter for some reason??? That's what I use for my collection. Cost usually 2-5 dollars but cheaper than a tshirt that I would wear once if that.
 
I ordered some "museum putty" from Amazon. I will put it in my "Hope Chest" for my Raindrop. Yet another wonderful little tid bit picked up from this forum.
