Back in 2022 we were lucky to get a Maverick order in through our small town Ford dealer.
The 2023 price was up a bit.
But, the “luxury package” was down a bit because Ford eliminated some stuff (constraints?) that we didn’t want anyways. We got the heated seats, and 360 safety features without all the extras that Ford included in 2022. That was my sweet spot.
The “mechanics review” video had some minor stuff that I noticed too, but I worked around.
The door handles are stupid, but easily fixed by eBay for $7 per door. Picture below
I did enclose the rear wheel well on the driver’s side too.
Minor problems…

Great idea --- I just wish they would find a batter battery that is cheaper to replace. That, to me, is the Achilles heel of all this, beyond the issue of charging safety and range anxiety in pure EVs. Just yesterday I had to make an emergency trip that would have resulted in charge stop that would have added significantly to my travel time, as opposed to the 5-minute fill-up at some random gas station.
 
The Honda engineers designing the Ridgeline looked at a mid-gate design. They decided against mid-gate due to safety concerns. What happens to that canoe 2 X 4’s sheets of plywood or whatever is loaded if you’re rear ended?

I have a couple baja stories.
And found some neat roads taking the off- interstate route in the west US. Dinosaur Highway is scenic, but not especially dangerous.

Here is the one I found connecting south to Grand Junction from Dinosaur, found a few years back while taking the long way home.
Having trailer brakes would make a very windy downhill 7% grade less nerve wracking...towing the 560 loaded heavy.

It was the sketchiest road I've ever traveled when I drove the famous 129 in North Carolina/Tennessee. I don't have any personal photographs, but this particular piece of road is known as "The Tail of the Dragon" and is a mecca for sports cars and motorcycles. The road itself is a narrow 2-lane road (1 in each direction) that is carved into the hills. There are 318 curves in 11 miles. Some are hairpins; others are a little less aggressive.

I wanted to take a motorcycle to it for years, but never did --- finally about 15 years ago we drove near it, and I took my 'cage' through it. I was tired when I got there, but after the 11 miles I was exhausted. I quite literally was having to think about how to turn the wheel.

I'm actually surprised it hasn't been shut down -- lots of bikes are taking it at excessive speeds not in frequently crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic. Its not pretty.

Sorry about that. It was the spec sheet for the 2025 Maverick at Media.Ford.com in pdf format. For some reason the hyperlink isnt working. But it showed the final and low gear ratios on both the hybrid and ICE version, which no surprise, are not particularly low, and def not as low as you would find in a 4x4 low low.

So, for now my AWD VW Alltrack is about as capable given the small lift, plus2 tires give me 8" of clearance similar to the Subaru Outback. Plenty good for minor ruts on USFS roads and BLM land.

Just stay out of the desert gravel washes...
Been there done that!

I'm now dreaming about a Big Bronco!
