help moving a trailer

PVC pipe under trailer tongue

I use the pipe to take the weight off the wheel so that the wheel can then be positioned in the direction you want the move the trailer. It really helps when trying to get the tongue over the ball especially on dirt.

Like many of you I kick my front wheel around on my driveway, although I discovered that
giving a pull upward to reduce the load as I do it works better (still young enough to lift the tongue).

My first time camping I wound up in a dirt/mud spot and when I went to leave my front wheel
was halfway down in mud. At Walmart (Target too?) I picked up three inexpensive
thick (1/4") plastic cutting boards about the size of a sheet of paper.
The one under the front wheel spreads the load on a soft site and help a lot to turn the wheel on.
The ones under the rear jacks may not really be needed but they all reduce the crud
on the wheel and jacks and leave less divot at a site. They fit in my Trimax chock-lock bag.

I had mentioned this same idea to my wife a few days ago so thanks for the reminder. I think the cutting boards will be the best and easily storer.

The best part is we finally found something for the trailer that doesn't cost over $100.00. Glad I don't have a motor home.

Cutting boards.. brilliant! We have extra for leveling the trailer, but using them to keep the wheel from sinking or sticking is, well... brilliant. Sure could have used that idea when we were stuck in a downpour at Estes Park on the way to CICO.

Now why didn't we think of that? Slow learners.

Maureen,

I didn't mean to be critical of another Baystater's idea. I like it.
You got me thinking, and I will probably use a piece of 4x4 under the coupler
like your pipe to take the weight off the front wheel for my 1st winter of storage.
Avoids localized aging/flat-spot like the jack stands lifting the tires.
I will leave the jack down and a bit off the floor "in case".

I had a scrap chunk of 2 x 6 which I cut into three pieces for use in soft soil with the rear jacks or tongue jack wheel. I haven't had the need to use them yet, but I have them in the front storage hold for when the need arises.

I love reading everyone's creative solutions to common problems as you never know when a little tid-bit of knowledge will become very useful.
