Hello all you teardrop enthusiasts. I am Lou, a retired semiconductor microprocessor design engineer. I have been retired from Intel Corp since 2005. About 4 weeks ago I went on a bike trip with my grown sons. They biked around the Olympic National Park in WA while I drove the support SUV.
I slept in the back of the car and was not comfortable. I have done a lot of backpacking when younger and slept in tents hundreds of times. But now I crave a bit more comfort. I love the Camp-Inn trailers and am ready to buy one. I was all set to leave on a trip to buy a used one last week when I was diagnosed with colon cancer, operated on, and recovered all in one week. Now I am home, feeling OK, and ready to get into this trailer camping craze with all you other nuts. BTW, my wife is not so enthused. She likes motels. TTFN - Lou

Welcome to the forum Lou and best wishes for a speedy recovery! I have had a lot of colon experience, and am glad things are looking bright for you! Nice to have another forum member in the "neighborhood."

My husband wasn't as excited as I was about getting a trailer. He really likes her and getting out with us now-he has definitely come around! There is something nice about camping in the great outdoors, but having your bed with you. Best of both worlds!

Are you considering a 550 or 560? The forum is a great place to ask questions and figure things out for yourself! Really nice people with lots of tips.

Welcome!

Aha! Another victim....uh, comrade in arms! Welcome, Lou, to the wackiest crowd you ever met...and real nice people, too. I found that out right fast.

There are several folks up your way with CIs. Take your lady fair to see one up close. When she realizes what convenient and comfortable little homes on wheels they are, she'll probably come around.

Best of luck with your health and keep in with us.

Camp On,

Sue

Lou,

Welcome to the forum, some of us are more sane, others, such as Spamalot, are fantastic story tellers! Oh, man another electronic engineer, great resources to those of us who can barley manage to press the on-button on the laptop.

Recovered in one week from colon surgery, that is the quickest recovery I have ever heard of from anyone.

There are a lot of owners in the NW who can offer show and tells for you and your wife.

Jean

Thanks to all for the welcome replies. Sounds to me like I have found a lot of kindred spirits. I slept most of today but am about to go out with my dog and do some walking. I have located a 550 ultra which is for sale and am hoping to buy it. My wife is a good sport and she will give it the old college try. I think she may find it fun. After my purchase, I will add the particulars and some photos to my profile.
TTFN, Lou

Be cautious about your purchase... make sure you see the 550 ultra in person before giving over any actual money. Scams are around for everything, even teardrops!

edit, also note that Campinns have a serial number, right in the galley. just call up Campinn with the serial number.

Welcome to the Forum...

I am still Camp Inn dreaming... but Kathy & Bob were so gracious and persisted I give the bed a try. They own a 550 and I now know I need to give the 560 a test fit. I am 6'3" and my feet touched the foot board and head hit the head board. The NW appears to be real active with members and most I am sure would be gracious enough to give you a tour.

Good Luck in your hunt

Welcome and speedy recovery.
We just got our 560 used it for one week, and now will be parked till March. That seems like forever away. The camper and the Tearjerker group has opened a whole new world to us.

Mr E

I'm 6'4" and the 560 is the ticket. Drop the couch to the lowered, bunk position, lay your pillow right on the dividing line between couch and bed and you will have more than enough room.

Just had Lisa and Jonathon (hi guys) stop by on Monday while they were in the Denver area to look at my 560. Jonathon was 6'3" and found plenty of length.

I'll probably never use the bunks but the couch and the extra length sold me on the 560.

Happy dreaming.

CI is just down the road from us... If we can find an open weekend I would like to drive down to check the 560 out..
Good news to hear a 560 would fit someone over 6 foot, it sure nice to know some things are made for people over 6 foot!! Like clothes shopping for the L as in Long size!!
Alough I did find our local Cabellas (sports store) carries alot of L sizes. Bad store to get me into !! Always walk out with empty wallet!!
Thanks

Just think how much room we have, we are 5'7" and 5'4"

LOL that happens often!! My wife is 5'3 and often gets the leftover corner. It gets real interesting when our golden retriever jumps in too.

LOL, It would be really interesting at my house, I have 3 Retrievers. Ben travels with me mostly.

Welcome to the insanity. Every teardrop owner I've met so far has been good neighbors. It's definately a "kindred spirit" thing. By the nature, we seem to look at the world just slightly different. That's a good thing.

Find a local "tear jerker" gathering. Another great place to Matt folk, mostly not CIs, but I don't hold that against them.

CI is DEFINATELY the Lexus of campers...frankly the quality will spoil you. We thought about buying a class C, but after seeing how these are put together we couldn't justify the price...even thought our camp inn cost as much as it did. I know well have it for a long time.

Hope and pray everything goes well for you. Hope to see you on the road...

Sweeney, you're right about the tear jerker gatherings. Carol and I want to one last weekend at Three Rivers State Park in the FL panhandle. We had a great time. Manufactured teardrops like CI and ltl Guy, many home builts and some really neat tiny trailers. Check out this link to some pics. And yes, the little black pet with the pink ribbon is a 3 week old pig! We had a rib cookoff but we asked the pig owner to leave her home for that event!
