La Wis Wis State Park (Ashford)

We tried this park because the weather was supposed to be 10 degrees warmer there over the weekend. It was beautiful! Because of the old growth forest, only very small trailers can drive through the park. Half of the sites are immediately on the Cowlitz River, and a small brook and a large stream also run through the campground.

We will certainly go back here!

The kids could go almost anywhere by fallen log, never stepping in 'hot lava' :)

The Cowlitz is a bit wild this high up.

One of the kids took this shot - kind of a brain teaser.
What is it, and which way is it supposed to be turned?

Re: La Wis Wis State Park (WA)

Evan, it looks like a great place! We're trying to figure out how to put 2 weeks together later this summer for a trip out west, and hearing about some of these spots is good motivation.

The picture looks like it would either be a fallen tree over the water and roots or a birds nest, or it should be turned 90 degress counterclockwise...

I think the picture is right side up already. The way the moss is hanging is a good indication. We'll have to check this site out at some point. Looks beautiful and isn't far from home.

The photos is posted in the correct orientation. I have never seen water flowing on a stream above.

Nice photo.

Re: La Wis Wis State Park (WA)

The photo is fine, just a mass of moss on a fallen tree branch/trunk. Of course I was camping in the Olympic rain forest this summer where you see this around ever corner. La Wis Wis is definitely on my list of places to go next year, tried to make it last month but the campground was booked solid.

Re: WA - La Wis Wis State Park

I'd been looking forward to visiting this campsite since you posted this Evan. I was just a little disappointed since they didn't seem to have any hiking trails to speak of and the vault toilets, as nice as they are, still grossed my wife out and we ended up walking a long way to the one set of bathrooms with water. Otherwise it was beautiful, would have been even nicer with that kayak in your photo or if I'd brought our fishing poles. And it is a nice location to take driving excursions from, they list at least three on their bulletin board. We took a nice day trip here.

Rainier was beautiful but all the trails up at paradise were still covered in snow which made for a tough morning of hiking.
