Land of Enchantment or Bust!

Taking off early tomorrow for a couple of weeks on the road. Headed out for a few nights in Santa Fe & then Red River, NM. Looking forward to some cooler temps especially in Red River. Little Rock area will be our first stop at Maumelle Campground along the Arkansas River. Second night we’ll be near Amarillo, TX at the Sanford-Yake campground on Lake Meredith. Our third night will start a 3 night stand at Cochita Campground near Santa Fe & one of those nights is Jeremiah’s 200th night on the road with us. And at some point we cross 25,000 miles on this trip.

Taking it easy in Red River is the plan and seeing Ray Wylie Hubbard in concert at the Motherlode Saloon. On the way we stopping at Foss state Park in Oklahoma and a night at Gulpha Gorge in Hot Springs National Park.

Looking forward to your road reports or recap. Live in Houston and New Mexico is very much on our list!

Made it to Maumelle campground near Little Rock. Nice campground. Survived Atlanta & wish I owned the Love’s Truck Stop in Jasper, AL. It’s a gold mine. 625 miles today. Back at again tomorrow. Keeping humming Jerry Reed’s Westbound & Down while I’m driving.

That's a lot of driving....
Coffee and chips.

Yikes, that's a meal!

So what do you think of the area? Are you seeing the acres and acres of cows?

How was the driving? Hows the roads?
Are there masses of people out?
How's the price of gas compared to home?

Is your car doing ok?
Do you have a 6 cyl?

Is it hot? And dry?

The picture location is lovely.

Are you singing and driving?

Happy journey.

Didn't try the 9'96'er? LOL Amarillo has a infamous steakhouse famous for its steak challenge. Its "only" 72 oz not 96 like The Great Outdoors....I actually think I could do it, or at least close. But I'm not prepared for the price nor the drive to get there :) Maybe in December when I make my trek to Arizona...if thats where I go.

Lots of cows in Oklahoma. Came by a lot feed lots once we off the interstate.

Roads bad in the Memphis area. Some road construction near Oklahoma City.

Car is doing great. This one has the 4 with the turbo. Our old one had the 6. The suspension on this tows better.

Paying $3.49- $3.89 for Premium. Cheapest was the Cherokee Travel Center as soon as you crossed into Oklahoma from Arkansas. Clean bathrooms too.

We saw as high as 101 yesterday. We left the humidity behind us. It is windy so wasn’t so bad here at Lake Meredith. Really nice this morning. Watching roadrunners in the campground.

Not as long a drive today. Then we are settled in for a week or so.

I remember the movie & the signs for that place when we came through 9 years ago. When I was young, I might have tried it. At 57, no way. I know my limits. After that big lunch yesterday, I didn’t eat supper.

Gas is more than I thought it would be down south.
My 2011 Outback used to burn up oil on those long flat drives so I had to always have a couple qts to throw in. Maybe they figured that out.
The sunrise, I think, is stunning.
Thanks for taking a minute to answer.
Happy journey and wishing you great adventure.

Our 2012 Outback would lose oil too.
