Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

I'm really concerned about my camping career.

I tried reserving something this weekend --- forget about it -- the whole state is booked up. Maybe the follwoing weeknd or two? I'm afrid as we get closer to folliage and the temperature people start staying home there's the "last chance" weekends...

22 nights this year? I've got to do better than that! October is pretty much the end of the season - the campgrounds close the pretty loops, and the showers --- much more primitive which is fine. Sadly the temperatures start to play a factor - I dont mind cool night but cold days are a differnt discussion.

Enough! Get my jobs done today, then off to ReserveAmerica to see what I can find. To add complexity, I have 2 freinds that want to go - so its finding 3 spots close to each other....2 of us are 'retired' or 'self employed' but that 3'rd has a real job.

I'm thinking Spring Mill will be very nice -- state park that has a working grist mill that they just finished repairs on -- the axle onthe grind stones broke -- I think some one said it takes 2 years to 'make' a new one --- they have to harvest the tree, then dry it for years before it is able to be tooled. I dunno -- not my field of expertise. THey also have a 'village' around it --- its been a decade or more since I've been there. This is an option.

Brown County State park used to be my absolute fave ---but $50 a night for a state park -- have you lost your minds? The Inn restaurant isn't even good any more!!! Not to mention firewood, which this time of year is an absolute necessity.

Tippicanoe State park -- maybe -- quite park. Great shooting range just across the street. Maybe.

Chain o' Lakes and Pokagon --- possibly. Northeast Indiana has some wonderful attractions -- especially if you love cars. The Deusenberg/Cord/Auburn musum up there is a good couple of hours for both car lovers AND art lovers. The company's airplane is there too...1931 Steerman. I am nto sure I'd want to fly it, I have a feeling it is a hand full. FAR beyond my training at this point. BUt it is as beautiful as the cars from that era.

Southren Indiana has a couple campgrounds as well - Lincoln State Park is nice. Decisions Decisions :D

Great pics!

We had some things open up this weekend and last minute decided to try and camp in Door County … lots of looking and eventually found basically the only site still available in a state park (and the possibility sure exists that it became available as a cancellation).

One more Wisconsin must-do to get satisfied before we leave the state next summer.

Thought we would be camping this week but our daughter just bought her first house. So we are in Mooresville NC helping get moved out of the rental and into the new house. Did get to see a cool car show today.

Hope to get to camp the first weekend in November.

If I had your property a corner of it just outside the view of the house would be a camp site :). I often just sleep better in serenity.

This looked like a good time! Just a little too far for this Hoosier!

These things. Ya, autumn is my favorite season!

The Covered Bridge festival this weekend. Battle of Missisiewa reenactment last weekend

Love it!

Its my Apple

It’s my iphone 16 Max Pro.

I know plenty of content creators who shoot entirely on an iPhone — the cameras are genuinely good. I only have a cheap 17e, and its images are perfectly fine for 90% of what I would ever want to do. The 200mm telephoto is something no phone can replace, but unless you're spending thousands on that kind of glass, the vignetting more than offsets any resolution advantage.

Yep two days later the sun is definitely rising south of the towers. My house is directly west of the towers so I’m looking east.
Wow...thats a lot of movement! BUt days are definately getting shorter fast!

This took me down a rabbit hole. As you might expect, the days are getting shorter fastest around the autumnal equinox. We lost 2 minutes and 45 seconds of daylight in a single day—remarkable. The sun also travels about 0.35 degrees across the horizon each day, which is roughly two-thirds of the moon's diameter. So that big swing of the sun from just north of the tower to south in just a couple of days? Entirely cool!

For you Tour:

Indianapolis (40 degree Norht)Ogema, WI (45.4 North)
Daily Loss at equinox~2 min, 45 sec~ 3 min, 15 sec
Summer Solstice Day Lenght15h, 4min15h 37m
Winter solstace day lenght9h 20m8h 42m
Total swing summer to winter5h 44m6h 55m

Thanks. I actually dig this and follow the amount of daylight each day. My app only rounds it to the nearest minute of sunrise and sunset and I do the math.

When we lived in Fairbanks, we either lost or gained about 7 minutes a day. It added up fast in the transition seasons!

Fall looks like it's finally going to hit here. Daring the weather gods to rain on a state park camping trip this coming weekend, but at least the temps will be in the mid-70's.
I found TX state parks to be very well run (in the two I used three years ago).

Are you headed to Big Bend in the CI anytime in near future? Wondering how far you can get back when.

On my bucket list...looks gorgeous.
