Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Do you guys ever find the 20" wheels causing a stiffer ride even on shorter distances? My old 20" folding bike (non ebike) was really a stiff ride even around the neighborhood and with the lighter weight of a non ebike. It wasn't a lot of fun to ride.

I'd like to replace my current full size ebike just for convenience of travel (and it's a bit on the large size for me although I make it work.) but I'm leery of going down to 20" wheels again. I want a soft ride. I'm getting too old for rattling my teeth when I ride.

Stiffer, I hadn't though about it -- but yah, I think that is a way I'd describe it -- my wheels are alloy, not spokes. That may account for it, may not. I personally find them VERY twitchy. I had it described as a very "technical" ride -- something that I'm not sure I want for long trips. I don't want to work that hard.

I do not like the short wheel base and small tires. Fat tires made a difference in the test ride....if I win the lottery, I can see something more traditional...

For sure the shorter wheelbase will make it more twitchy. The stiffness is something I would feel at my wrists and through my upper body as the road vibrations and all the bumps come up through the front wheel and handle bars. And Lord help you if you happened to roll over a small pot hole.

I just went for a 12.8 mile ride. Half was pavement and half was dirt/gravel. Overall it was comfortable and I only met three cars in the 1 hour. 8 minute ride.

The fat tires & front shocks on the Lectric bikes really help a lot with smoothing out the bumps coming from terrain the front wheels experience.

No doubt shocks help smooth the ride as well as fatter tires. At the end of the day it kinda comes down to weighing all the trade offs among the brands and models. I just went out today and test rode an Aventon Pace 5 Rec. I'll be trying some others too before making any decisions. No hurry.
